Very nice seaside hotel located within walking distance from train station. They plan the breakfast and dinner so meticulously that they ensure you enjoy different set meals everyday. For early birds, you’ll get a complimentary drink for dinner. Staff are friendly and approachable. It also comes with onsen and complimentary coffee and noodles.
We stayed here the night before we ventured to the Kumano Kodo. It was perfect for this: it’s located right next to the train station which makes arriving by train and leaving by bus quite easy. Also, the restaurants and izakayas are close by so you can have a good evening with your travel companions.
The staff was very friendly, the rooms very clean und the breakfast ok. I’d book again!
Pros:
•I don't see the point in just choosing a room here. Be sure to get a superior Japanese-style room with an open air bath or even a bungalow, and definitely one with a sea view. Then you're guaranteed a complete experience.
•The hotel welcomes guests barefoot or in socks on tatami mats, a very pleasant and authentic experience.
•VIEWS!! Gorgeous panoramic views of the ocean.
•This is a traditional ryokan, so tattoos are not allowed, BUT I was immediately given tape to cover up the tattoos on my arms, and everything was fine.
•Delicious food, lots of delicious food! The breakfasts are especially amazing.
•The hotel offers a lot of complimentary drinks, and the after-onsen area has free ice cream and cold water. They serve local ramen from 10-11 PM also complementary.
•All the onsen are very clean and cool. Especially the male and female one, built into a cliff right on the ocean shore, has a view. By the way, they provide special clothing, so if you're shy, don't worry.
•There were no stink bugs. It's important to understand that this is nature, and insects are normal.
Cons: •Despite the fact that many foreigners stay here, there's almost no English navigation and the staff speaks very little English.
•There are only two private onsen, and the ryokan is huge; it was easiest to get the key to the private ones in the evening.
•The main dishes at the kaiseki dinner were surprisingly disappointing (dry rice and tasteless noodles), although the other dishes were very good.
•The onsen are closed from 10:00 to 15:00, so there's nothing to do during these 5 hours, especially if the weather is bad 😭
•The ryokan doesn't offer food other than breakfast and dinner and don’t have a restaurant, so if it rains or a typhoon, you'll have to go outside the hotel to find food.
Conclusion: If this is your first ryokan, it's probably better to choose a more tourist-oriented one.
If you want to fully immerse yourself in onsen culture and be captivated by the ocean, this is a great choice ☺️
Great location of the hotel. The bus station was near, also Lawson and Family Mart were near.
The hotel is quite old, but it didn’t bother me at all. It was quite clean and the room was very spacious. The view was incredible!
The onsen was very good, especially the one on the second floor. You can lie in the hot water and admire the ocean.
And sleeping on tatami is the best. If you are not a fan of sleeping on tatami and a hard pillow, you should choose a Western-style room.
The location is not the most central, but it is right next to Wakayama Castle, which is a big plus. In the evening, it’s very pleasant to take a walk around the castle area — quiet, scenic, and relaxing.
There are bus stops nearby, making it fairly convenient to get around, though buses do not run very frequently. It’s best to check the schedule on Google Maps in advance.
On the ground floor, there is a 24-hour FamilyMart, which is very convenient. There is also a McDonald’s (closes at 8pm) and a few nearby restaurants, so food is not really a concern.
The room was clean and comfortable, and the staff were friendly and helpful. Check-out was quick and hassle-free.
Overall, for the price I paid, this hotel exceeded my expectations. I would recommend it to travellers who don’t mind a quieter area and enjoy being close to Wakayama Castle.
Grateful for the nice and helpful lady at the reception. Facilities are great (Onsen of course), a decent room to stay in and they even offer you amenities to enjoy tea there. Also, thankful to the hotel that offered me a ride to the train station so that I don't have to worry about getting on a bus with my heavy luggage. Thank you for such a pleasant hotel experience you have offered me, hotel staff team!
Nice location (very close to JR Wakayama station in walking distance). The staff are nice and helpful. The onsen experience is good though the area is small but it is hygienic. Free snacks (ice sticks) and massager are nice to have. Room is comfortable and clean.
room is so bigger & onsen is large both is clear and comfortable
they have free welcome drink is very nice , as we're so enjoy for this service
lobby staff is nice and english communicate is no problem
we will choose this hotel again
I really liked the food there.
There are two onsens, and they are switched between men and women in different time of the day. Make sure you visit the one with the sea view.
Fantastyczny

Very Good
GGuest UserThis hotel definitely deserves a 5-star rating; it pretty much met all my expectations for this vacation. Make sure to book a sea-facing room! The rooms are quite spacious, and they offer futon-laying service. When you open the window, you're directly overlooking the sea. Be aware that some room types might have the parking lot obstructing the view, so it's not a completely unobstructed oceanfront view. The best part of the hotel is undoubtedly the hot springs, which span three or four levels. The lowest level is open-air, allowing you to experience soaking in the water while gazing out at the Pacific Ocean in the morning. The hot springs were absolutely the highlight of our trip, incredibly comfortable and relaxing, so much so that we spontaneously extended our stay by an extra night. The dinner included with the room booking was just okay, but breakfast was decent. There are several restaurants within a 10-minute walk, so you don't necessarily need to book dinner with your room. The facilities are comprehensive, including billiards, KTV, and a bar.
GGuest UserArrive at JR Shirahama Station and then transfer to the taxi for about 4 minutes. It is very close to Toretore market and can be reached on foot. The rooms are panda-shaped and spacious inside. Dinner and breakfast are buffet style
GGuest UserOur experience at Taoya NachiKasuura was just fantastic. The hotel is conveniently located pretty close to Katsuura Station (also bus stop). The waterfront property is nice. I believe all the rooms have water view thanks to their intentional design. The sunrise in the morning is NICE. Hotel has great amenities - baths and open air baths are clean and convenient; the two lounges offering free snacks and drinks (including beers, wines and sales) is a big extra! And the food selections at the dinner and breakfast buffets are wonderful.
GGuest UserWe absolutely cannot contain our elation when recalling our recent stay at this remarkable hotel. From the moment we stepped into the elevator adorned with personalized name cards, my husband and I were enveloped in the warm embrace of hospitality. The attention to detail and the genuine kindness of the staff made us feel like VIP guests. They also thoughtfully provided a bucket for us to indulge in the glowing enchantment of firecrackers and even tidied the mess up afterwards.
But the best memory of our stay here was definitely the culinary experience given by the chef extraordinaire — Master Chef Matsuki. His creations were nothing short of a gastronomic revelation. Each dish was a testament to his unwavering dedication and profound respect for the ingredients. Oh, the flavors — titillating all our taste buds in every bite. And the generosity of Chef Matsuki in sharing his culinary wisdom, guiding us on how to savor each morsel, elevated the entire dining experience to sheer perfection.
The language barrier was no obstacle to the remarkable team of staff members who graced us with their presence. Their command of the English language was commendable, and even those who were not entirely fluent went above and beyond to cater to our every whim and need. Their genuine desire to assist us was palpable, leaving us feeling truly valued and cared for.
I am already making plans to return with my beloved family, as I know they too deserve to bask in the unparalleled warmth and luxury that this establishment exudes. This hotel has set the bar impossibly high, redefining the meaning of hospitality and creating memories that will be cherished for a lifetime.
So if you seek a hotel experience that transcends mere accommodation and transforms into a symphony of opulence, impeccable service, and culinary artistry, then look no further. This is the epitome of hospitality, a sanctuary where dreams come true, and I wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone who craves an unforgettable journey of indulgence and delight.
GGuest UserThe hotel facility is excellent and perfectly clean with a high-class traditional japanese service standard. Our room was a deluxe room with private hot spring tub. It's a little pricy while I think it's perfect to celebrate the anniversary with my wife. Dinner and breakfast were good, while it may not be the best comparing with other hotels in the major cities. The sightseeing points are also within 5-10 mins driving distance from the hotel. We expected to watch the sunset at the balcony, while on that day the weather was a bit cloudy so we didn't take a nice photo here.
MmotoppAfter a great stay at the Kuaian Hotel by the rice paddies, I decided to check out the Kuaian Nachiura store, which I'd been eyeing for a while. It was about a ten-minute walk with my luggage, and the hotel was right by the road, with cherry blossoms in full bloom. My room had a fantastic ocean view, and I could even see Bentenjima island from my balcony. I managed to catch the sunset on the beach, which was wonderfully quiet and peaceful – I loved it. In the evening, I enjoyed another relaxing hot spring bath. For breakfast the next day, we had a reservation for 8:15 AM, but I woke up early to catch the sunrise and thought we might be able to eat earlier. To my surprise, we were politely turned away and told to stick to our reservation time (it turns out breakfast is quite a formal affair!). We realized we were a bit too casual and were heading back to our room to wait when the friendly elderly gentleman at reception called us back and found us a table. We had a beautiful view of a corner of Bentenjima island while enjoying a very formal breakfast. It was a wonderful experience overall.
GGalya_the_Pooh2It was way better than we expected according to the reviews.
East wing indeed is the newest one: our room has all the facilities, it was spacious, clean and has fantastic view from the balcony. Meals were in traditional Japanese style, so might not be to everyone's liking, but we enjoyed all of them. I wasn't able to go to the onsen (as I have several big tattoes), but my husband liked an open one!
Also, even though it is not listed in the hotel's description, but they do provide a parking if you come by your own car (as we did), which was very helpful, considering remoteness of location.
All in all it was great experience, and not costly at all!
Just one small remark: I do not eat meat and was concerned about parking, so I tried to contact the hotel in advance via Trip.com first and then their e-mail (listed on the web-site) to clarify those things... with zero success. I don't know if the reason was that I wrote in English and they barely speak it, but eventually I didn't get any response at all.
Other than that really nothing to complain about!

It is a good place to come with your lover
TThomasThe hotel is situated at a secluded corner of Wakayama prefecture. It is much preferable to drive here rather than relying on the infrequent hotel shuttle. Public transport is otherwise non existent.
There are no restaurants around the hotel. However the hotel provides delicious meals with abundant fresh seafood. The in room dining experience is superb. The hotel staff service is impeccable.
The room has a spectacular sea view allowing you to see the sunset on clear days. The onsen also faces the sea which provides a relaxing experience.
A downside is that the hotel does not seem to sanitize the slippers for indoor use. All hotel guests had to change to their slippers to access their indoor facilities.
GGuest UserEverything about this place was great! Shirahama is such a comfortable and relaxing destination, and the hotel was excellent too. I was personally very satisfied and have already recommended it to friends. They're quite interested and want to come back with me next time for a vacation. The convenience stores nearby are super handy, and there's a supermarket close by for some browsing too.
