Quality Hotel Ekoxen

Linkoping|0.6km from city center
Although it is supposed to be ”central”, it does requires from a quarter to twenty minutes walk to reach the very central part of town. Still, of course, it is not in the outskirts. The hotel is spacious and has plenty of rooms to offer in different wings. The reception is welcoming and the staff professional and friendly. The room I had was perfect size, with all the needed essentials. A good desk, an armchair, space for jackets, the bag. From what I remember the wardrobe was very essential and didn't have much of shelves. I suppose they do not expect people to stay too long. The bathroom was of a decent size, with good space and surfaces and all I needed for a shower, including an hair dryer. The bed was comfortable, but the main problem was that the room lacked AC. The first night I didn't realize that, as I did hear some ”mechanical ventilation” in the room (which turned out to be the bathroom one only) and it got warm very quickly. Luckily the windows can be open, but it makes the temperature very uneven and maybe in the coldest nights it is not the best solution. It was also quite disturbing with the door for the corridor quite close to my room, slamming heavily. The breakfast was the high point - I could spot a broad selection of food, although more nordic oriented. I would have appreciated a touch of organic food, if not local, more interesting tea and nicer juices. They seem very industrial and some lack taste. The bread was instead fresh and genuine. It could be quite crowded during breakfast time, but not an impossible situation to solve. I noticed though that my room and the area around the elevantors, felt a bit outdated, torn. My room was definitely very nicely cleaned (although it didn't get clean during my stay) but it was very standard in the quality of the materials and the appearance. Alltogether a perfectly ok stay. The price was not too high, but definitely not on the cheapest side either, but I think reasonable for the location and the quality.

Elite Stora Hotellet Linkoping

Linkoping|0.04km from city center
Having given the Elite Linköping just three stars, I should perhaps start by saying that I actually liked this hotel and, in the highly unlikely event of my being in Linköping again, would be happy to stay there, though I would set my expectations a bit lower. The hotel is an old building, a bit faded but with a quirky charm. Stairs and corridors seem to run in every direction though the signposting is good (it needs to be!) The staff are friendly, efficient and helpful in that formal way one expects of Swedes. The reason for the three stars comes down to the room. I do not know if my room is typical, I hope that it is not, but if it is, as a four star, the hotel needs to get its act together. Where to start? My room was one of just six or so on the top floor. It seemed to be above the level of the main roof. The lift only goes to the third floor so getting to the fourth involves climbing a short spiral staircase, something that could be a problem if one was carrying heavy luggage or was unsteady on one’s legs. I arrived at 1.30 in the morning after a nightmarish 36 hours in Amsterdam airport and the first problem I encountered was that the room light did not come on when I pressed the switch inside the door. This was not surprising as (as I soon discovered) there was no light in the socket in the ceiling. So I had to use the light on my iPhone to find one of the table lamps. The room was well equipped and the bed comfortable enough, though with those single person duvets that Nordic hotels seem to favour. I have never been a fan of these. Apart from the main light, the television gave up the ghost on the second day. There is an option to “go green” and volunteer not to have your room made up at all – a good idea in my opinion, though it would not suit everybody. The real problem was the bathroom. There was a tiny sink with no plug. Nor were any facecloths supplied. Trying to shave in such circumstances without getting water everywhere is a challenge. The shower was fine, but the shower gel bottle refused to cooperate. It took me about two minutes to extract the soap from its wrapping (I was, to be fair, running on about 2 hours sleep in the preceding 24) and was so sharp at the corners that I actually succeeded in cutting myself on it thus bleeding onto the floor – a first in my long experience. The towels were thin and worn and need replacing. On the plus side, the room was blissfully quiet and I slept well despite losing the duvet overboard a couple of times. The breakfast is OK with a reasonable choice except in the fruit department and there was no hot chocolate option for us chocoholics, but there was a waffle maker and some local delicacies for the brave. There is a sauna and gym (on the same fourth floor), but I did not have time to try either of them.

What an awesome hotel in a city with old boring traditional hotels. And hotel is a great new asset to the city. Restaurant is hip and great value for money. Rooms are small but got all u need and feels more spacious than the sqm u get! Don't miss the gym which is much better than many hotel gyms!

Nice staff and god breakfast. I had a room on the top floor which was lovely. Was a bit worried that it would be really noisy since it was the room right next to the elevator but it didn’t bother me at all. Didn’t have time to check out the facilities since it was a short stay but would definitely book again

The family room, but the hotel room is still small, the bathroom is also small, and the facilities are average. You can park temporarily at the hotel entrance, and then you have to go around to the back of the hotel to enter the underground parking lot. It should be possible to enter with a credit card. I used the hotel room key card to open the parking lot door. Later, when I went out, I was worried about not being able to get out. I asked people that I didn't need to swipe my card when I went out. Standard Western breakfast. The hotel is quaint. It seems that there are many tourists who travel with families outside Sweden to stay with children.

If you are travelling with children, do not book here. Firstly this is not a childfriendly property. Nothing here to make your stay worth it. We only booked since most hotels required us to book two rooms. With 3 small kids this is not an option. We emailed ahead to ask about getting a spare bed for the 3rd child and were told this was not a problem. (see below. We got a small baby cot for a 10 year old) The windows are very very low and easy to open, with no security catches at all. Not a child friendly property. Extremely dangerous. Alerted staff who were not interested. Asked for a spare bed for our 10 year old and got a babycot. You have to remove your own rubbish. No service, breakfast or attempt to go above or beyond in any way. You have to pay for a cup of coffee at checkout. Tiny kitchenette, very uncomfortable sofa bed. Not at all what we expected when we booked. Overpriced. I will book a proper hotel next time. Everything was sparkling clean, but nothing exceptional at all. Don't expect anything extra. A sachet of Nescafe and a teabag provided. No bathroom amenities. Staff truly uninterested. Well since the hotel is mostly unmanned, it was beyond a joke.
