Shangri-La Far Eastern Tainan was a very grand and pleasant hotel. The lobby had a beautiful Christmas tree and they let us check in early. There were 38 floors which was impressive and the room was big and bright. The beds were comfy and the TV had YouTube and Netflix with many other channels. However, there was some dust on the cupboards and the sofa bed needed money to be turned into a bed. There were many food places near the hotel as well. But go to Anping, Garden night market or Da Tung night market need to take taxi. Overall, Shangri-La Far Eastern Tainan was enjoyable for my family.

Nice location and good service. It’s about 300 meters to the train station. Hotel Tainan is more than 60 years old, the furniture is old and the room is relatively small. The bathroom is small but comes with a bath tub. No hair dryer and no safe in the room. Surprisingly the room key is still old style. The check out time is 11 am. I stayed extra 4 hours from 11 am to 3 pm and I was charged $NT 1130.

Location was inconvenient especially if you do not drive. The public transport is a bit far from the hotel. Taxi service not available for short distance. We took the taxi from the hotel to Chiayi HSR which cost NT1,200. Guests stayed at the hotel only allowed one visit per stay per person. To fully enjoy all the facilities for both floors, it will take at least 3 hours. The swimming pool was closed for renovation. Breakfast selection was rather disappointing.

This is my second time staying at National Cheng Kung University. The location is great, within walking distance to the National Cheng Kung University campus and Tainan Train Station. The room environment is clean and good, and the interior space is large. You can run and jump without any problem. The bed is moderately soft and hard. The sound insulation effect is good and you will not be disturbed when you check in. The complimentary breakfast includes porridge and side dishes, Western-style toast bread, drinks including coffee machine milk, etc. , not high-end but the buffet style meals are not bad. Overall, although it is not a new hotel and has not been renovated, the accommodation quality and experience are great! The only thing that can be improved is that the air conditioning in the room is still a bit too cold even after the temperature is adjusted. I booked a double room and upgraded it to triple room 908. The room has a historical feel but the space is comfortable. The bedding is rough and the pillows are too hard. The double bed is directly facing the air-conditioning vent and is not comfortable, and the single bed is a bit shaky. I heard that the poor sound insulation really affected my sleep in the middle of the night. I kept hearing the low hum of machines and the nearby temple started playing music at seven in the morning, so I couldn't have a good rest. In addition, there are enough sockets in the room which are commendable! The resting space for afternoon tea provided by the hotel is very good. It's a pity that I didn't come back in time to experience late night snacks after dining out. However, the breakfast was quite delicious and had a variety of choices.
