Marine Motel

I really hate to write this review because I try to always be positive. The people we dealt with are very nice and trying hard. The new owners were on vacation so we did not meet them. We read a recent review that there is new ownership that is working to update and improve it. I don't doubt that is true, but it has so far to go that it may be an impossible task to make it acceptable. I am afraid that nothing short of a complete gutting will do it. I talked with some locals and was told that the previous owners - I guess I shouldn't say that. It is a safe and maybe superficially clean room but it is just too tired to be presentable. If you are desperate, stay and you can at least get some sleep and chalk it up to experience.

Under new owners/managers. As of 11/6/23 they had been operating for five days. Reviews prior to that are about the previous management. I am *not* affiliated with the new people, but I think the average rating (3 dots when I looked it up) deserves a serious revision. The motel is definitely an older place, but is in very good maintenance. Except for a few places where fixtures had been replaced and the old mounting holes not yet filled in, it was very good. Oh, I forgot... there is a bit of a gap between the door and the frame on the handle side (the side that opens); in very hot or cold times there would be a little bit of a breeze, but the individual room HVAC unit was plenty powerful. Linens, towels, etc., in great condition and clean. The shower and toilet were in one small room, and the washbasin in another small room right next to it. So you had the bed in the main room and the two small rooms going from the bedroom. Refrigerator and microwave were clean and worked fine. Wifi worked fine. There is no pool, business center, breakfast area (no need as no breakfast is offered), or fitness room. Right across the street is a grocery and hardware store that only has a short opening time, but there is a gas station/C-store almost directly across the street so food is available there. The Marine Motel is not fancy, but if you want a clean, quiet place to sleep and shower, this is great. If I were in the area again, I would choose it again with no hesitation. The owners are locals and knowledgeable about the area, and very friendly.

The pool was green, office staff was never available, hard to understand, and the door was always locked. This hotel is run down, old & dirty. The door didn’t shut completely. Only perk was working coffee maker & mini fridge. The bed was hard. Brought our own sheets & blankets thank goodness. Would not stay again.

We live in Ajo. We had major storm damage and had no power in the middle of July. Two weeks in the only motel that had vacancies. Now I understand why. The place would need to jump up two places to only be considered a dump! The only thing that I was grateful for was the AC! The owner was flat out rude. The walls shook when anyone opened or closed their door, Anywhere on that side of the motel. Think FEMA trailers from 1972. Bugs, horrible sheets, a bathroom that never got over the stench of the septic system. And a floor that was bouncy everywhere I walked. The fridge was tiny! The microwave glass platter jumped up and down without explanation while cooking the food. And no HBO even though it was advertised. The tv wouldn’t work unless WE brought a DVD player to use. Do yourself a favor and stay in your car!

The single room was small but had a fridge, microwave and coffee maker. From the moment I walked in I was amazed how well maintained this older motel was. The room smelled clean and as I looked around realized it was because the place was spotless. Although the motel itself is older the bed must have been new and was super comfortable. It was the cleanliness of the room itself though that likely made me have the best sleep in years. If you are looking for an inexpensive motel I would highly recommend this motel and will be staying there myself next time I’m passing through Ajo. Kudos to the owners for doing a great job.

Good value for money paid. Friendly service. Clean bedding. Yes is dated but can't complain given $$. On the way to organ pipe national park. Grocery store and gas station across the road. Peaceful even though by highway Jenny NZ

The rooms are very cramped. The microwave and the refrigerator were plugged in next to the bathroom sink. This created an unsafe situation because the outlet was not a ground floor interruptor. There was rodent poop behind the bedside tables . We didn’t see any. We kept our snacks in the refrigerator. Also they have a small picnic area in the back. Unfortunately a bunch of young people had a barbecue where they screamed for 2-3 hours right outside our door. Ear plugs were not sufficient. The shower was hot but moldy and cramped. I would not stay there unless you really are desperate.
