Logis Hôtel Restaurant Chaptal, Amboise

We had room # 1 at the top of the stairs for 4 nights, the room was smallish but we loved the location This is a Rick Steves recommended hotel Very helpful staff The secure car park was very nice a short walk down the street About 2 blocks away you will find a self service laundry that is almost new with a variety of different machines

A very convenient located hotel easy to find with friendly welcoming staff and well appointed room and good breakfast very well placed to visit the chateau and the town togeather with the restaurants and shops.

This hotel is very centrally situated. Just a few metres from the river and from the quaint shopping streets which run parallel to the river. There are also historic buildings to explore nearby. There is parking belonging to the hotel, just around the corner on Quai des Marais. It's in a small private outdoor parking lot. There doesn't appear to be any security at the parking lot, but the streets are quiet, and we had no issues leaving our car there. There's a small charge per night for parking, payable to the hotel. The staff were friendly and welcoming. They spoke fairly good English, so we managed to make ourselves understood. The room was a reasonable size and clean. The shower was quite small but worked well. Although the streets look small, the hotel seems to be on a main thoroughfare, so if you're bothered by traffic noise, ask for a room at the back of the hotel. There is no lift, so you need to be able to handle stairs. The reception closes at 9pm, but we were given a key code to use to get into the side door after that time. There is another Logis hotel on the same street, closer to the river. That one has a restaurant attached - Café Voltaire. You can get a discount there because you're staying at the Chaptal. I would definitely recommend you eat there. We had a very warm and friendly welcome and the meal was one of the best I've had since coming to France.

Comfort double was large enough for two people to spend several nights. Location is great, staff is very attentive and helpful. Parking wasn't an issue as there are few free lots within 5 minute walk.

Small dog friendly hotel. Lovely friendly and helpful staff. Breakfast was good. Our room. Was small but had all the amenities we needed especially as we were only staying one night. Great location. Wish we had stayed longer .

Booked a room, received confirmation, however after some hours y the they cancelled my booking. The did not call me! just send a letter and my fault I did not check mailbox frequently. I believe that in case of cancellation the hotel should have call me.

This is a fairly basic hotel in a great location close to the centre of town. We stayed for one night. The woman at reception when we arrived, Sharon, was simply brilliant - friendly, welcoming and helpful. The hotel has a car park (you need to book it in advance) a short distance away - 10 Euros - which was very convenient as parking in the town is all on meters. In addition we were allowed to leave the car there until 12 noon which meant we could head off and visit the chateau without worrying about the car. There were however a couple of negatives. Our room was really quite small - just about OK for one night but not much more. Also the toilet was a bit malodorous. The latter two items made me consider giving the hotel a less good rating but Sharon's very positive contribution persuaded me not to.
