The Powfoot Hotel, Annan

My friends booked a meal for us at this lovely quiet restaurant within the Powfoot Hotel. From the start we were made to feel very welcome by attentive, friendly staff. The meal was sumptuous with a good choice of food, from starters to puddings. We all missed the starters in favour of a pudding, and we were not disappointed. I had a tasty belly pork meal, with others choosing the lamb dish, and a vegetarian pasta option. All plates were cleared. Then we had puddings. The dark chocolate fondant was excellent, and I’m sure the others enjoyed their deserts. Certainly nothing was wasted. The staff were polite, and efficient. Coffee was served in a second floor lounge, with a patio overlooking the sea. Very comfortable and a private area where we could all relax. The restaurant was clean and tidy, and very pleasant to sit in. The whole hotel looked to be in good order. Good wine list, with our wine served in perfect condition, chilled and fresh.

Liked · Lovely hotel in an *amazing* location overlooking the Solway. The Powfoot Hotel is charming and remote and overlooks both stunning tidelands (and Cumbria in the distance) and a lovely golf course. It makes a great base for exploring this under-visited piece of Scotland. Dinner in the restaurant was fantastic, and the staff were very helpful. The lounge and balcony on the 1st floor (2nd floor US) was deliciously peaceful and offered stunning views. Disliked · The room was overwarm and, while a small fan was found for us, it was unable to cope. There was no furniture for the balcony, so all we could do was walk out and stand on it. We couldn't adjust the automatic lights in the bathroom (regardless of switch position), so it did affect sleep. The bed was large, but could have been more comfortable.

What a gem . Came to Scotland to visit my mum in hospital and this place was exactly what I needed in my downtime . The room was beautiful the bed and bedding so comfortable. The views perfect! What really made the difference were all the staff , so considerate and hospitable . Would love to go back under different circumstances

We had a lovely stay here after a road trip in the Scottish highlands. All staff were polite and very helpful and the views over the bay and golf course really make this hotel. The highlight for us was the food we all had absolutely outstanding meals! The hotel is lovely and clean we will definitely return!

Always nice food and value. Polite staff. Latest visit my only complaint would be the roast potatoes, reminded me of something you got served at school in the 80’s, not crisp, not fluffy, dehydrated and dry. Us Brits all know a good roaster! Friends agreed , not great. (An alarming observation was the amount of drivers drinking alcohol, Scotland is zero tolerance. Pretty scary. I understand it’s the drivers choice and you don’t need to ask questions but it’s alarming nonetheless)

Stayed here last night for a business trip and would highly recommend. Really friendly staff, lovely rooms with comfy beds and great views over the Solway Firth, food is outstanding, we had an evening meal and breakfast and both were superb. I'll definitely be staying here again.

This is the first time we visited this area and the scenic is lovely. We was recommended by family to try out the food at powfoot. and we had the most lovely time there, the fmain course was excellent, the dessert is excellent too! The services was excellent, great staffs. Will be visiting again in the future. Absolutely recommended to everyone!

Booked direct with the hotel for a stopover while en route Scotland to Wales. arrived in the dark and woke to a glorious sunrise over the Solway Firth before it turns into the river Esk. Very friendly welcome and an upgrade to the 3 rooms I had booked over the phone. Large comfortable rooms at the front of the hotel, two of which had balconies. Enjoyed dinner in the bar, which was excellent and good value. Good wine by the glass, great draught beer and very good service. The owner was a mine of local information, and made us feel very 'at home'. Breakfast was just as good and on the journey South we all agreed that we had made a really lucky find and would make a point of staying there again, perhaps in the summer to explore the area fully.

Wow. What a lovely hotel. It might have been a cold dark November night but it was warm and cosy with a lovely fire creating a perfect bar area for a fabulous meal. The food was excellent and so was the service. It was our first visit to the hotel and it certainly won't be our last. My only hope is that the weather is better next time so that my husband can get a game of golf at Powfoot golf club.
