La Residence is in a good location in Arles, but apart from that the only good thing I can say about our stay there was that the receptionist, Joscline (?) was very pleasant and helpful. Three of us stayed in the large apartment with glass roof on the ground floor. Before we even entered the apartment the courtyard and glass roof looked very unkempt. I appreciate it was early autumn and leaves were falling but the glass roof was nearly covered in leaves and was also quite dirty, which made the glass veranda area rather dark and dismal (see photograph). As this provides the only natural light to the main area of the apartment it made the whole place even darker than it otherwise would have been. As soon as we opened the door we could smell damp and there were de-humidifiers working in both rooms. There were visible signs of damp, such as skirting board crumbling (see photograph). Every time you went from the main bedroom into the bathroom, you of necessity brushed against the wall in the narrow opening and, part of the lower wall crumbled onto the floor (see photograph). Apart from the appearance this meant that you were walking on grit in the bathroom. The shower drain in this bathroom was very slow to clear and so the shower overflowed after even a very brief shower. There was evidence of poor workmanship as when you unplugged an appliance/charger some of the electrical sockets came away from the wall. (See photo) The second 'bedroom' was partially separated from the main area by a large bookcase. While there were 2 bathrooms, there was only one very poorly ventilated toilet, and this was located off the main living area (and second sleeping area). Not very convenient, particularly at night. In addition there were a lot of mosquitoes in the apartment. We were very glad to leave. We loved Arles, but not this place.
