The Lion and the Rose Bed and Breakfast

We celebrated our 30th anniversary at the Lion & the Rose and stayed in the beautiful Tom Craig Room on the third floor. It truly felt like having our own little Victorian house. The room was spacious, relaxing, charming, and filled with the historic character we absolutely love. This is easily one of the best bed-and-breakfasts we’ve ever experienced. Every morning, the breakfast was incredible, and each day we returned to find thoughtful homemade treats waiting in our room. Those little touches made our anniversary feel even more special. The location couldn’t have been better. We were just minutes from Asheville’s art scene, live music, amazing restaurants, chocolate shops, and all the unique places we enjoy exploring. If you’re looking for a warm, welcoming, beautifully restored Victorian inn with exceptional hospitality, We highly recommend the Lion & the Rose. It made our 30th anniversary unforgettable, and we can’t wait to return.

We didn't have a chance to meet Steve, but Karen was delightful and we enjoyed talking with her at breakfast. She couldn't have been more gracious and welcoming. Their home is charming and very well located for visiting downtown Asheville. Unfortunately though, I don't believe we'll be staying again at The Lion and The Rose. The primary reasons are the cost and the bed. At a cost of $300 per night, we expected a much more upscale experience and a more extensive offering for breakfast. What was provided for breakfast was good, there just wasn't that much. We would have liked more eggs, some fresh fruit and yogurt. The fresh coffee delivered outside our door early at 7am was appreciated, since the breakfast wasn't served until 9am. The other main issue was the bed. It was just way too soft for our preference. I know that the firmness of a bed is very much a personal preference, which is why most hotels have something that is more in the middle on a firmness scale. We stayed in the Holger Nielson Room.

My husband and I stayed for 2 nights at the Lion and the Rose. Beautiful B&B, very comfortable and clean with accommodating and friendly owners. Breakfasts were delicious and we enjoyed the early morning coffee set outside or room before breakfast, plus the afternoon cookies. The location is good for going into town, but I would recommend parking in town if walking is an issue. I would highly recommend the Lion and the Rose. We had a great time!

The Lion and the Rose is a gem in one of the most historic, charming and quite neighborhoods in Asheville. My wife and I have been to Asheville many, many times over the years. We ususally stay with dear friends; but to celebrate our 50th anniversary, we decided to stay at a bed and breakfast in Montford. We could not have chosen a better place to do that. Karen and Steve and excellent innkeepers. they made us feel more like good friends than guests. The room was well appointed and the queen size bed quite comfortable. The large front porch offered a place to sit and enjoy the beauty of area, with lots of trees, song birds, and no bugs.

Great location, easy access to downtown and local restaurants, Montford Park, the Greenway, and the UNC-Ashville Botanical Gardens. The breakfasts were very good and the amenities were excellent.

Nice and spacious room in cute building with nice outside area and on site parking! Located in nice neighbourhood with a few local restaurants and bars. We ate at Tall John's with very welcoming and service minded professional staff. Great food, drinks and ambience!

Our stay at the Lion and Rose B&B was wonderful. From the time we checked in till the time we left, we were treated with true Southern Hospitality. Karen gave us lots of information on their home plus the surrounding area. Steve was the chef for breakfast and it was delicious. The house was beautiful inside and out. Highly recommend this B&B for your next trip to Asheville.

We needed a quick overnight place to stay & they happened to have a room available. We love B&B’s. This one did not disappoint. It is close to shops, restaurants and downtown area. Karen & Steve are wonderful and welcoming. We had a great time talking to them about the house, local places to eat and just overall conversation. Breakfast was delicious! They love this home and you can tell. They treat you like family. The house is beautiful, warm & cozy. We will be back :)

This is a great place to stay. Easy to find and within walking distance of 2 popular restaurants (so you may need to book). Your hosts couldn't be more accommodating and solicitous that you have everything you need to make your stay memorable. There is no lift but a flight of easy going stairs gets you to your room. Rooms are spacious with en-suite bathroom, TV and space to put your bits and pieces. Breakfast is served at 9am in the dining room and very good it was too. There is always coffee and soft drinks available Internet is easy to connect and use, even my kindle like it!
