The staff is ok, but service is also about the system. It’s a budget hotel, and you feel it. When I arrived near midnight, the door was locked. There was only one person on duty, so the poor chap had to lock the door to go toilet. My first room had windows facing a depressing ugly narrow air well, not stated in booking, so I asked for a change. My second room was better, facing a cross junction 2nd floor, it’s noisy but at least not depressing. If you need to leave your bag, I recall you need to put in a paid locker. I didn’t try. Doubt I’ll come back. After I extended my stay in BCN, I stayed at nicer places for about the same price. The trick is to book a further out place under a local hotel chain but with a convenient interchange train station. I later book Hotel Catalonia Sagrada Familia, near El Clot Arago, it’s much further out, but nice hotel, nice neighbourhood with a nice tree-lined eatery walking street. and surprisingly convenient, with both regional and local trains at my doorstep. Earlier, I also stayed at a budget place really near Placa de Cataluyna, worse older rooms but super convenient. After those experiences, my stay at Best Aranea just couldn’t compare. That said it was nice to have a tub. Although in BCN, you really don’t have time or need for that.
