The Fox at Barrington

We went for an early evening drink and dinner at the Fox on a Sunday in May 2024. We sat in the beautiful (and massive) garden right next to the river and enjoyed some really tasty food and a lovely pint. Then we got in our car to drive home and didn't make it out of the car park after something snapped in the clutch pedal. Fortunately, the Fox also offers some excellent bedrooms for guests, so we decided to delay our call to the RAC until the following morning. After a peaceful night's sleep in a room overlooking the garden and river, we enjoyed a very tasty breakfast and a walk around the picturesque Barringtons before calling in the breakdown. Throughout our 18 very happy hours at the Fox, all of the staff were friendly and helpful, but Alan the manager was especially great - helping us with things like phone chargers and even offering us a lift to the nearby shop in case we needed any supplies. I would have happily given The Fox 5 stars for the garden, the food and the service, and would happily give it another 5 for their thought and kindness in our time of need. Tasty food, a great selection of drinks and thoroughly lovely people.

Not very impressed with the price and quality of food. Ordered focaccia bread to start our meal and failed to deliver what was ordered, think it was sour dough but maybe just white bread with a squirt of balsamic on top. Mains, plaice and gnocchi good but venison lasagne underwhelming and lamb kofte cold when served. For what used to be a great destination for food am quite underwhelmed and disappointed

Visited this lovely pub restaurant on a Saturday evening. We were a family group of 6 adults, one 7 year old and 2 toddlers. We were made to feel very welcome from the moment we arrived. Lovely cosy a**osphere and the waiting staff were all lovely. The food was beautiful, from the burgers, home made pie to the exceptional ribeye steak which was cooked to perfection. We had a lovely evening and would definitely recommend you visit here. I would advise you to book as it was busy when we were there.

Food was terrible. Vegetarian option BarB Q cauliflower was cremated, burnt all the way though. Roast beef was so overcooked like shoe leather. Crème Brûlée still almost frozen and sugar topping cold. The place was not busy for a Sunday lunch. Could not fault anything else, just the quality coming out of the kitchen

Accommodation was lovely! Perfect views over the river and a brilliant breakfast. Plenty of local walks to get nice and muddy. Didn't stop for an evening meal but from what I could see everyone was sending back clean plates! Always a good sign!!!

Shabby accommodation and bad service. Awful smells emanating from the river. Would not recommend as there are so many better places nearby. Too expensive for the poor quality food and the rude staff made us leave feeling ripped off and totally underwhelmed

I visited earlier in the year for a meal with friends and left very disappointed. The meal was over priced and not very nice but worse than that was the terrible service. The staff were not at all attentive and a couple were actually quite rude. I won't be returning.

Very disappointed by the trea**ent from the staff, they ignored disgusting misogynistic comments from a regular they knew and instead blamed the newer customers, it was unacceptable behaviour and I felt very let down - won’t be back again

A very nice pub with good bedrooms. The staff were particularly good - friendly, helpful and attentive. The bedroom was warm and comfort with a spacious ensuite. There was a wide choice for breakfast and the food was very good. Lovely views of the river and nearby countryside.
