We liked our stay in Alfa hotel. A very sweet lady at the reception - much appreciated! The room was in good condition, nothing special but exactly like described on the website. We got free tickets for public transport, which came in handy to visit Basel. The tram stop is also in front of the hotel. Only negative point was that there were not enough parking spots.

No air conditioning and no screens on the windows when we opened them up to cool down lots of flies got in the room. The safe didn't work and we had to get it reset just to stop beeping, the keys stopped working each day. We attempted to get a refund to switch hotels after the first night but they were not amenable.

Very loud traffic noise to the room. No aircon. No wordrobe or even a clother rack with hangers to hang clothes. Shower a cubicle of max 1m*1m. Wifi not working. Would be disappointing even for what expected for a 3star hotel when paying 150eur a night. Now a whopping 450eur a night, booked 2 nights. Hotel never bothered to answer guest’s before-the-visit questions (to their email). Very very disappointed.

Located directly by a tram stop, the hotel is a sound, reasonable value (comparatively!) choice for a short-stay city break. Our good-sized room was quiet, comfortable with all necessary facilities. Buffet breakfast was simple but filling with meats, breads, pastries and a welcome coffee to start the day. The restaurant appeared to be limited in its opening. Staff on reception were friendly and efficient. Officially the hotel is just outside the Basel city boundary but its only 7 minutes by the extremely frequent and efficient tram, or a 30-40 minute walk to the city centre via the road or along the River Rhine path. There are a range of restaurants within walking distance.

Budget hotel in Birsfelden, with easy access to Basel. Tram right outside the door. Rooms are simple and clean. Rooms with a view towards the back are more quiet. Breakfast is simple and have no gluten or lactosfree alternatives. This is an ok alternative if you are looking for a budget hotel close to Basel.
