Hotel San Donato - Bologna Centro

Great location with great staff. The bell tolls every so often, but it is no bother. Shower is a tad bit tiny but bathroom is big. Lift is available but some rooms on level 2 has a few steps to conquer - do request a room that does not tackle this if you cannot lift your luggage for these few steps. One key per room, but key can be left at reception. We had 4 rooms all up and they mananged to get us all on same floor & close by, as per our request. Again, all the staff are great. Check-in is 3pm, check-out is 11am.

Fantastic location, in the very heart of the city. The room is tiny but clean, the balcony has a splendid view on the old town. The bed of the single bedroom is very small: it was good enough for me, but it might not be enough for a bigger person.

The front desk young women were friendly but somewhat clueless. When we arrived in our room, we discovered our bed used to be a king but had been downsized to a king (see photos). We knew something was off immediately upon seeing the headboard vs. the mattress size. The shower is tiny, slippery and dirty. The a/c condensation line leaked all night and was fixed when reported. However, when we arrived at the hotel late that night after a long day in Florence, the a/c would not come on. The maintenance person came to the room and became flustered because we requested the a/c to be on. The front desk manager said we cannot use the a/c b/c it’s not summer and must open the windows. I said that’s not possible as there is a loud and busy late night bar directly under our window every night. He said, “Sorry”, and hung up. We couldn’t sleep with the music, loud voices and continuous dumping of bottles until the wee hours each night. That night, it was particularly bad as we thought we heard a gunshot. But it was some street celebration which lasted longer than 2 a.m. we barely got any sleep b/c of the outside bar noise and interior heat. It was our last night in Bologna and it was miserable. There was supposed to be a bar with an outside terrace and our room was in close proximity but the bar was never open. I fail to see how a visitor can give this hotel any rating above 2 stars. The location is the best thing about it. The staff is arrogant and dismissive. The amenities are not as advertised. The showe and a/c outlet/filter were dirty and the a/c unit obviously does not have preventative maintenance to prevent clogged condensation lines. I’d never pay the price for a 4 star hotel when the property and service is equivalent to a La Quinta in the U.S..

Nice room with views to the old towers. Also has a panoramic terrace where you can enjoy the sunset with amazing views. Friendly staff. The room had nice confortable bed. The shower so good with water presion. Very central and close to main sights to visit

We stayed a Friday and Saturday night, costing over €800 for two nights. They couldn’t pick us up from the airport and offered two taxi companies who wouldn’t make a booking until we had landed. There was no room service (“we do change the sheets” which was good to know, but no other service in your room). To have a glass of wine in your room, you have to go to a local cafe to pick up a bottle. The shower was the size of a postage stamp. If I wasn’t fairly slim, I would not have got in it! No information given by staff and although they were pleasant, they offered no help. The decor and basic room facilities, such as sink, cupboards were clean but otherwise awful. The walls and ceiling and the general way the room was made was appalling- stuck together with glue, almost. Two good things: great view and clean. How could a hotel be rated 4 star for cleanliness and a view? It had literally no facilities!
