I've just returned feom a fabulous week staying at Amelie Hotel in Brides les Bains. Having not stayed that low in 3 Vallees ski area before, i wasn't too sure how the circa 25 minute gondola lift would work upto Meribel, as I've always stayed in a main resort. The hotel is less the a 5 minute walk up a hill to the Olympic Gandola. The hill was a shock on the first day, but after that it was not an issue. A nice warm up or cool down before / after a day on the slopes. We were lucky to grab a locker in the hotel, for a €20 deposit and it hold two sets if skis and boots. There were lockers at the gondola though. By the time the end of the day came, there's a happy hour slot in the hotel bar between 4pm and 6pm which was popular with residents and non residents. Our twin room was very spacious as was the bathroom which had the most brilliantly hot and powerful shower. Adjacent to the hotel is the river Doron des Allues and was lovely. The first night, you could really notice the sound of a heavy flow of water whilst trying to sleep, but after that it was just like an air conditioning unit in a hotel room. ie not an issue. Food wise, breakfast had the usual continental array of croissants, cereal, toast and somewhere to boil your own eggs. To accompany this, there was juices and tea / coffee. The evening meal, which was a set menu (€32 for non residents), was really nice. 3 courses with food cooked to perfection. I liked most of the food, but I'm not sure what you'd do if you didn't. If you want easy access to the 3 Vallees for a really good price, this is THE place to stay. You would need to accept the journey up and down the gondola to Meribel, but the £ saving is well worth it. I wouldn't hesitate in visiting this hotel or Brides les Bains again.
