We had our first two nights in Uganda in the Lake Cottage, which is a longish walk down a narrowing path and completely isolated, which is just what we wanted. From about 6pm until 10am we had the quiet and solitude that we had expected when making the booking. However, the cottage is next to the bathing site, with no fencing or indication that it is not a communal asset. The result is that while having an afternoon nap, people would come onto our veranda, sit in our chairs and have noisy conversations. Groups would troop across the verandah looking for footpaths. Unsupervised day visitors even tried to use the cottage wall as a lavatory, so my four stars are really quite generous. The view across the small lake was beautiful and there are many bird and monkey species in the vicinity. I found the male staff more congenial than the ladies, who were a bit abrupt. Food was decent, beer was cold and fairly priced. The accommodation was quite basic, but the Lake cottage has its own water heater, shower and flushing toilet, so fine for a couple of days. Luckily there is a double and a single bed, since the double was rather narrow for two people and also a little short. Bring a torch, as the walk down after dinner would be difficult without. Dining as night was falling over the lake was a great experience, as was breakfast, keeping an eye on the monkeys.
