We had three rooms booked at Cedar House for a night but it was immediately clear that these were not acceptable in terms of health or safety and were not fit for purpose. There were seven of us booked into two doubles and a triple room. All rooms were absolutely filthy with zero evidence of having been cleaned. The triple room was supposed to have a double bed and a single bed, which were we led to believe would be on a mezzanine level. It was in fact a small mattress built into the eaves of the roof, accessed via a set of very unsafe stairs with a rope bannister and involving a climb over a roof strut. It was certainly not long enough to call an actual bed and would not fit an adult. There was no airflow as this room was simply a loft space and there was no way out if there had been a fire in the main bedroom. The so-called ‘bathroom’ was cramped into the other side of the roof with a toilet directly facing the ‘single bed.’ There was absolutely zero privacy and a sign in the room saying the shower didn’t work anyway. Similar signs were in all rooms, and when we turned on a shower to see how bad it was it was clear that there was indeed a water issue. There was dog poo at the entrance to the property and the entire place was filthy. Carpets were covered in dirt, dust, crumbs, dead insects. There were extensive large stains all over them and the beds. Patio furniture was rusty and unusable. The ‘swimming pool’ was barely bigger than a hot tub and was dirty with mud and leaves at the bottom. We were offered another room but this was musty, damp and the bed was directly under a roof window about 3 foot square with no cover so you couldn't have slept under it. After being offered a refund over the phone by who we assume to be the property manager, we left and found accommodation elsewhere. The owners have now refused to honour this. They claim that we used a bathroom as there was a wet towel (we were there under 30 minutes and we didn't even unpack. The reason we turned the shower on was to see how bad it was based on the sign in the room). They claim that we were offered five other rooms. This is also untrue. We were offered one alternative room it was also not fit for sleeping in. They also claim that the photos of the property are accurate and they have many good reviews online. This may be the case with some very clever camera angles and leaving out a lot of things - there are certainly no photos of a bed crammed into the eave of a roof or a toilet in another eave for example - but they could not be less reflective of this property overall. Finally they claim that the property is well cared for. This is just not true. It was beyond fiflty by anyone's standards. There are indeed good reviews of this property online and for the life of me I can't understand why, but despite the owners saying there is nothing wrong with it, looking a bit closer at the reviews shows that there are in fact a number of others who have had a similar experience a
