Went to the Blue Licks Battlefield State Park for Thanksgiving. This was the 4th time I have been there in the past 10 years. The lodge was a good value at under $100 per night. It was clean and comfortable. Unfortunately the WiFi was not working at the lodge but the tv functioned properly. The Thanksgiving buffet was a little disappointing. The buffet dinner was reservation only - so the management knew how many and when the diners would arrive. Walk ins were not permitted at this event. Therefore planning should have been easier than if they accepted walk in customers. Even with the a fore knowledge of how many and when, the staff had a difficult time keeping the buffet stocked. When a tray was empty it often took 3 - 9 minutes before it was refilled. This may sound like a short time, but it caused many long lines and delays. There were no allergy alerts for which items contained nuts. The turkey was served in a gravy mixture, so you had to have gravy on they turkey. If you preferred your turkey plan or with only cranberry relish, it was not an option. A server was assigned to a group of tables to provide beverages. This server assigned to my table was OK, but, again, possibly due to the volume, was slow to check on refills. The Thanksgiving dinner is an annual event at most Kentucky state park lodges. The quality can very from year to year. The best one I remember was at Cumberland Falls State Park. The food and service were great. That year (2017). My experience this year (2024) was OK and I would recommend coming back next year, but if I had this experience 2 years in a row, I might consider other options for the 3rd year.
