While the staff at Hotel La Gran Via in Cartagena, Colombia, are friendly and welcoming, the overall experience falls short of expectations.
The food leaves much to be desired, often undercooked and flavourless. There are additional fees for basic amenities like water and coffee, that can quickly add up.
The rooms, while passable, show signs of wear and could use maintenance. The beds and pillows are uncomfortably hard, leaving you to feel exhausted even after 8 hours of sleep. The safe in our room did not work. The shower head did not flow properly and would flood the floor every time we would use it. Also, the power went out several times during our stay.
Additionally, the Wi-Fi is practically non-existent, making it challenging to stay connected.
The pool area is disappointingly small, limiting relaxation options. About 12 chairs for the entire hotel. Often times you are waiting for one family to leave so you can sit down comfortably.
Overall, while there are some positive aspects, the hotel's shortcomings make it a mediocre choice for accommodation.
