Hotel Mrak Superior

Great hotel - it’s a shame that the staff let it down. Prior to our arrival, we contacted the hotel to let them know that we would be arriving after check-in had closed (at 10pm). They were very helpful and provided us with instructions to enter the property by ourselves using an app. When we arrived, we managed to get into the lobby (using the app), but the room key we were given was different than the one we were told on the phone and email. As a result, we were unable to enter our assigned room. Assuming that our room number had been changed, we tried the key in the door that matched the new number (as there were no staff or guests around, and no one was answering the phone or emails). It opened and revealed a couple, asleep, inside. Obviously, we were mortified that we had disturbed the hotel guests, and also terrified that we would have to sleep in the hotel lobby until check-in opened at 6am. After about an hour of searching around the lobby for clues about who to contact, we knocked on some private doors. Thankfully, a man came out and used a master key to let us in. It was clear that we had woken him up (by this point it was 2am). Again, we were sorry to have done so, but were left with no choice. After we had successfully entered our room, I sent an email to the front desk letting them know what had just happened and that we would like them to apologise (on our behalf) to the guests and staff we woke up. They never replied. In fact, every time we mentioned it, the staff member made excuses like “I wasn’t there so I don’t have anything to do with it” and “the guy who organised the late check-in was training so he made a mistake”. There was absolutely nothing in the way of an apology or compensation for the mix-up until we checked out and it was already too late. We would like the hotel to know that mistakes are bound to happen, so it is imperative that they have a back-up (emergency number or night staff) for guests who have been given the wrong room key. In addition, since we had been travelling for a while, we were running out of clothes and needed to do a load of laundry. We followed the instructions for the housekeeping staff to collect our laundry but found that when we had returned to the hotel, the laundry had not been done and the room had not been made up. When we went downstairs to inform the staff of this, we were told “housekeeping doesn’t go back to rooms to clean them after you took off the do not disturb sign, I’ve worked in lots of hotels and this is always the policy”. This member of staff eventually helped us find an laundromat, but the contempt with which we were spoken to was unacceptable and uncaring of the fact that we, too, have plenty of experience in the hotel industry as customers. An apology would have sufficed. Overall, it was a great hotel in a fantastic location. Just make sure you’re okay with passive aggressive communication before you book.

Great location, very cosy room

This review is long overdue! My wife and I stayed at Hotel Mrak during a trip to Ljubljana in June 2023. Hotel Mrak was the perfect place to stay. Cute, quiet, and with all the amenities you might need. Also a great launchpad to explore the rest of the city. Highly recommend!

Hotel and everything around it was awesome! The location is perfect, breakfast very nice and rooms were super clean and tidy. Staff is very pleasant and helpful. Definitely would recommend it and will visit again

Hotel Mrak is a very convenient place to stay in Ljubljana due to proximity to all tourist attractions so it is a perfect place if you like to go around on foot. My room was nice and clean, it perfectly suited my needs. When it comes to food dinner could be a bit more diverse. Personally, I had no complaints but some members of my entourage who eat gluten free or vegan food could have had more choices. Breakfast is perfect though, it offers a wide variety of food. Staff was mostly friendly, especially a young receptionist who was really helpful.

Spent 5 nights here over two stays on each end of my trip to Slovenia. Rooms were comfortable and quiet. Location was terrific, a couple blocks to the pedestrian only zone in old town, and just a bit over 5 minutes on foot to the river promenade. Nice breakfast spread which includes a cooked to order selection. They also serve a very good, reasonably priced lunch with just two selections daily, one is vegetarian. There is a nice cafe a couple of doors away, and several other places to eat nearby. The staff, on duty 7AM-10PM, were very helpful whenever needed. I particularly would like to recognize Matjaz for going above and beyond the call of duty. I had an appointment that was about a 35-minute walk, and it was raining very hard. They booked me a taxi, but 10 minutes after the scheduled pickup time they called and said it was in an accident and it would be over an hour before a replacement would be available. As soon as he finished checking in a group, Matjaz asked the manager to cover the front desk and drove me to my appointment in his own car. It saved my appointment that was the primary reason I stayed that extra day in Ljubljana. Thank you Matjaz!

Great position and value for money.Best breakfast i ever had in a hotel.Polite staff. Parking space is limited to 5-6 places and it's not free. But position is near center of town so its understandable.

Hotel Mrak is a small hotel in a nice and quiet part of LJubljana. It's located just a 5 minutes of walking from a city center. Room was nice and clean, bathroom small and clean. Hot water was available immediately. There was a kettler in a room with 2 bags of instant coffee and 2 begs of tea. They have 5-6 places in front of a entrance. For breakfast everything was delicious. I especially liked sausages. Meat and cheese products were from local farms. Breakfast room is small so only cold food is served. Hot meals you can order to be prepared (eggs, omlets....) . My only remark would concern way of serving bread. When you sit for a table waiters will bring you paper bag with bread, and there'are 2 pcs per person. In my case i have to ask for more. Second time i was a little bit shamed to ask for more :)

This hotel is simply amazing. You just feel welcome from the moment you arrive. The staff are just wonderful. Very friendly and helpful. We were offered welcome drinks when we arrived. The location is right in the centre yet in a quiet location. The room is very comfortable. The bathroom had a good shower with Rituals toiletries. The breakfast is just amazing. The best breakfast we had in all the hotels we stayed at during our tour of Europe. I would definitely stay here whenever I visit Slovenia
