Whether you’re enjoying coffee overlooking the lake, a glass of wine on the deck as kayakers glide past or watching the sea gulls in the afternoon, there’s nothing more relaxing. This is a 1 bed, 1 bath cabin with a full bed and small kitchen with basic necessities. There’s dining table with chairs and 2 comfortable chairs for relaxing. Outside there’s a deck with a table and chairs, along with a charcoal grill. The steps take you down to the cobblestone beach where you can search for agates or read a book. An evening campfire on the shore gazing at the stars is the perfect way to end the day. This is a great rental combination with Superior Reflections 1 and 3 to relax and enjoy the beautiful north woods. Across the highway is the Gitchi Gami bike trail. Temperance River State Park is practically in our backyard with miles of hiking trails and beautiful waterfalls. Nearby you will find Cross River, Father Baraga’s Cross, and the Sugarloaf Cove Nature Center. The Schroeder Bakery is a great place to start your day with a coffee, breakfast sandwiches and bakery. After a day of hiking you could stop for a malt or pizza. This is a seasonal cabin open May through October. Pets are welcome with prior approval and an additional fee, 2 pet maximum. Due to the location on the shore and season, water may taste salty. We provide drinking water for you.We provide towels, linens and soaps. Access to the cobblestone shore of the lake is a short walk (about 300 feet) down the gravel driveway. While not directly on Lake Superior, you are nestled amongst the trees in a quiet and peaceful setting. Enjoy the peace of the woods just 5 minutes from downtown Grand Marais! The Camper Cabin at Basecamp du Nord offers a rustic basecamp for your North Shore adventure. Like most traditional camper cabins, we provide a warm, dry place to sleep and relax, share a board game or a meal. There is no running water or kitchen, but a grill and fire pit are provided for guests. A clean and well-lit outhouse is located near the cabin. Some drinking water is provided but we recommend you bring additional water. Showers are available at the local YMCA for $13 or at the municipal campground in Grand Marais. The Camper Cabin DOES have electricity and heat. We like to compare our experience to camping but with a solid roof over your head and a comfy bed. Guests must bring their own linens. During winter months, you will park near our homestead and use a sled to snowshoe your things to the cabin. It is a short distance. Open May - November this is a wilderness cabin with beaver, eagles, mink, moose, and silence. We are surrounded by forest all around and our two neighbors are rarely heard from or seen at all. The small river is accessible right out your front door, and kids like to splash, catch and net things! But so many things to do beckon beyond the cabin property it's almost overwhelming. The Lake Superior Hiking Trail (which runs from Duluth to Canada) is very nearby. Devils Track Lake, a rather large lake has good fishing and swimming is down the road a couple of miles. The galleries, food and music in 'town' are extraordinary. Grand Marais really has become quite a hub for artists of all types. The North House Folk School is a one of a kind craftshop with adult classes and the Gunflint Tavern features local and national talent in a funky intimate atmosphere. Almost half of the people who stay at our cabin are repeat visitors. The 14x28 cabin offers a poplar and hickory built kitchen for food preparation needs, with a faucet for cleaning, and a neat dining table to eat with space. 7 windows are provided for a look at nature along with blinds for privacy along the sleeping area. Fridge/ freezer to keep food/drinks cold. Sleeping offers a queen size log bed for a needed nightly recharge. Enjoy outdoor dining or watch as a campfire crackles. Rock fire pit provided along with birch firewood for a sweet and soothing chance to enjoy the warmth.
