YHA Cheddar

Lovely hostel in an unbeatable location. 20 minutes walk from the stunning Cheddar gorge, so there's many opportunities for hiking, caving, and being outdoors. I booked a private 2/bed room and it was supremely clean and comfortable. Showers/bath facilities were clean and in good working order as well. Paid extra for hot breakfast and it was well worth it, cooked to order (with vegetarian options!) and a variety of continental foods too. Reception was helpful and kind, although only open from 5-8:30 for check-in so just make sure you plan accordingly.

Can't grumble for what we paid clean but People banging doors selfiahly ruined our stay a bit...but that's just people in general no days lovley village lots of pubs to have a beer would stay again

You know where you are with YHA, Basic, clean, quite often a bar, bring your own towel & clean up after yourself when you use the kitchen.

Really impressive as we have not used the YHA Before and if the Cheddar hostel is the Standard of all the rest we will definitely try them. Good facilities very helpful and pleasant staff we enjoyed our 2 night stay

Overall, excellent value for money. Shame about the safety night light that had to remain on all night. Is that necessary in a private room?

The hostel itself was good, can't complain as exceptions were met. No frills, clean, friendly. However terrible night's sleep as it was very loud due to constant foot traffic of people using the toilet/ shower. Doors slamming and squeaking door handles. Would benefit from some sound proofing measures, soft closure doors and WD-40 on handles/ locks. I know you can't control guest behavior but the building itself is not set up from the amount of foot traffic created from shared facilities. Bring earplugs. Would not stay again.

Worst hostel ever. Iv traveled the world and never been treated in such a petty way and talked down to as if I was a child. The manager had the cheek to confiscate the dregs of bottle of wine and two unopened beers from our personal food supply in the fridge. We’re were not in any way having a party or being Leary. They could have notified us if they had an issue but they simply stole our items and left a note in the kitchen to try to humiliate us. I was simply with my wife and 2 year old trying to have a restful weekend. This incident was after I had complained about being woken up at 1pm by other drunk guests placed in the family rooms annex banging on our door which woke our baby up until 4pm in the morning depriving us of a nights sleep. No discretion was taken at all and they had the cheek after taking our drinks to try to sell us their own alcohol. No thanks! They must be failing badly if they have to revert to such childish tricks. Worse still I arrived 45 minutes before check in time after a 4 hour drive and the same manager wouldn’t even let me or my wife and baby use the toilet. This same manager felt it necessary to call me prior to arrival and state strictly the arrival times for check in making it clear there was zero flexibility on this this issue. I wouldn’t have minded that so much if the hostel was fully booked but it simply wasn’t. This is not a hostel to bring your young family as the manager will personally harass and micro manage your actions even to the point of rifling through your own food supplies if you’re self catering. Zero regard for your dignity as a paying customer. Stay well away and dodge this bullet if you want to have a restful time in cheddar best to go elsewhere.

What a nice place to stay. We stayed in a family room which had plenty of space and was super clean. The kids loved it. The breakfast at the hostel was fantastic, and the staff super helpful. Highly recommended.

Stayed for 2 nights with our junior rugby team. Staff wonderful. Helpful and friendly. Hostel really clean. Room 7 was a big room with en suite and spacious, this wasvthe disabled room i think, other rooms were as you'd expect, just bunks for a base. Food really good, fresh salads with evening meal and freshly cooked breakfasts, the ladies did well for us. Separate kitchen to use for prepping your own food or drinks. Great location, Tesco express not far at all, although the hostel.sold drinks and snacks too. For a hostel it was great, couldn't have asked for more. Thank you for a fabulous stay with all the lads.
