The rooms and the hotel has a luxurious feel and all is extremely clean. Love how the hotel has been renovated and kept the remains of the jail architecture. However, there seemed to be massive a lack of staff. In the bar there was only one member of staff and it took ages to get our drinks. While in the bar we noticed there were numerous people still waiting to be taken up to restaurant when their booking was half an hour before. Another night we tried to order room service (about 3 hours before room service was meant to finish) and was told that the restaurant was too busy and wasn’t doing room service. This was extremely disappointing when one of the reasons we booked the hotel was to enjoy room service. Then on our final morning we had to stand and queue for half an hour just to be seated for breakfast! You even give them a time slot you want breakfast for so they know how many people they are expecting at each time. Yes the rooms themselves are lovely but the amount you pay to stay here is not worth just that when you don’t have the facilities and staff available.

I was really hoping to be able to write something more positive as my partner chose this restaurant for lunch, but unfortunately the best way I could describe our roast dinner was unremarkable. The first mouthful was lukewarm, the meat was scant and thinly cut. The roast potatoes and Yorkshire pudding unappealing, the vegetables almost indistinguishable except for the peas. Presentation non-existent, although the service was good. I know it could be hugely more enjoyable - try eating Sunday roast at the Swan in Bampton, Devon - a completely different experience including the settings. I would love Trehallas to do better, I left feeling disappointed. Update the décor, so it doesn't feel I've stepped back in time. Direct the chef to serve the food hot, present the veg in separate dishes, provide extra gravy. Easy things to remedy. Customers, especially those who have travelled and come across exceptional meals, expect more these days. Trehellas are still catering for those who are happy with 1980's pub grub.

We planned to stay in Polperro for the evening but failed to book ahead of time and upon arrival, all accommodation was booked out so we made some phone calls and was recommend the King's Arms by another establishment. We were grateful to be able to secure a last minute booking and to be greeted by such lovely people after what was a very long day!! Danni, the hotelier made check in easy, offering us breakfast for the next morning. Leanne, the cleaner there was also overly helpful, even though not on duty, was lovely enough to escort me to my car, helping me with my groceries and luggage back to the accommodation. Both Danni and Leanne were welcomed new friends who were very knowledgeable about the area, helpful with tips for our planned trip to The Eden Project the next day and an absolute pleasure to meet! Great location. Ample on site car parking. A heated outdoor pool. OK in need of some maintenance but just so welcome. Open early to late. Very helpful staff. Bedrooms are comfortable with all the usual features. Breakfast is very good with plenty of choice. Only two downsides. Firstly the lack of a residents lounge - yes you can use the bar area but that is less than cosy. Secondly although the hotel offers dinner on Weekdays the limited menu is set for the month and frankly the choice is poor. With a bit of thought the hotel could become a destination for meals for locals and guests. The pubs offering good food well cooked were rammed so at this time of the year there is plenty of demand. Special shout out for the reception staff. Friendly and helpful with great knowledge of what the area offered the visitor.

The hotel is in a suburb, the suburb of Bodmin, next to a highway service toll station, but there are few food at the toll station, just McDonald's, Subway and a Coop supermarket. If you want to go to Bodmin town for a meal, you can't do it without a car. Because it takes more than 2 hours to walk. So in theory, it should be normal to take away food. We bought food and prepared to eat in the hotel lobby, and then the front desk staff came and said that you can't eat, our place provides meals, and you can't eat takeaway food. To be honest, this is the first time I heard this reason. I'm not sitting in your restaurant, can't I eat takeaway in the lobby? I've stayed in many HIXes in the UK, and I came across this one, which was arrogant and acted like it had a reason. Other HIXes will let you use plates and knives and forks. This one will only drive people away. I thought they wanted me to buy their wine, so we bought it, and after buying it, they still drove people away. It was really annoying. Later I thought he was discriminating. Because the table next to me was eating pizza, so, see.

We had a cottage booked in Cornwall for 3 nights and as the weather was nice decided to travel a day early. We booked a room for the night as from the pictures on line it looked nice. After booking we read the trip advisor reviews and were quite concerned from recent comments. On arrival we checked in and the people on reception were friendly and helpful. We had room 204 rather than a lodge. The room was lovely and clean and the bathroom was spotless. There was a large bath and good shower over it. We had a nice balcony with a couple of chairs and a table which we were not expecting. If I wanted to be really picky the carpet was slightly worn by the balcony door, it was clean so did not really matter. In the morning we used the poo and spa area which again were nice and clean. We didn’t eat at the hotel so cannot comment on the food . I would have no hesitation in recommending to friends and family and if in the area would use again
