This pub has a four-star AA listing, but on current standards it needs a re-grade. Entrance to the bedrooms via the street is via a rotting canopy, unswept floor and dirty, torn carpet. Our room was clean - if you didn't examine the edges of the carpet too closely - but cramped, with an ill-fitting window that rattled in the night. The bathroom tiles were cracked and the only shelf to place toiletries was missing. The only availability for an evening meal was 5.30 or 6pm and breakfast was a not very holiday-friendly 8-9. The cooked-to-order breakfast was good, but there was no choice of fruit or yoghurt to start, just orange juice and boxes of cereal. The outside seating area was scruffy with containers of dead plants and some plastic flowers suspended from the trellis, with overflowing waste containers in the car park. This is no reflection on the staff who we found to be helpful and friendly and the place seemed to be busy with evening meals. But the whole experience compared unfavourably with a nearby pub that was well run, with excellent food and a lovely garden.
This trip to the UK, this is my favorite hotel. It really looks like the kind of hotel in classical fiction, downstairs is a bar, or a restaurant, upstairs is a few rooms. The driver thinks that such hotel conditions will be very poor, not as good as the hotel. In fact, it is not, it is particularly good, clean, comfortable, spacious and distinctive! The most unforgettable thing for me was that on the day of arrival, I came to menstruation, no sanitary napkins, and I was in a hurry, because there were no supermarket shops around, and the location was relatively biased. I booked this hotel for the next day by the Pickering steam train. I was eating on the first floor and told the waiter about my difficulties. I didn't express it accurately. The waiter went to the back and took dry paper towels, wet paper towels, and sanitary napkins and asked me which one I needed. I pointed to the sanitary napkins. She went to the back again and took three pieces for me. It was wrapped up and others couldn't see it. I thanked her very much, wanted to give her money, she didn't. I gave her a pooch she bought the day before yesterday and she happily took it. I was very happy!

Pickering is a good town, we stayed here for one night by steam train. This hotel is similar to a family hotel, the environment is acceptable, but the service is basically not available. Breakfast includes two breakfasts, but an extra child has to buy another, cold meal 10 pounds, hot meal 16 pounds, we say that two adults with breakfast order hot meal, children add cold meal. The waiter said that adults ordered casually on the menu, and there was no quantity limit. We ordered several dishes in total. We thought they were all single items. As a result, each one had side dishes. We watched that they could not finish eating and let them not serve the dishes. Finally, the checkout said that we ordered more than two hot meals, and that the dishes that were not served were counted as if they were ordered. The child's share must also be charged according to the hot meal. And more excessively, when we ordered the meal, we also clearly said that the child wanted a cold meal, and ordered more than three people. Why didn't the waiter remind us? ! The service is too bad!

My sister and I stayed at the Old Manse for 2 nights last weekend to attend a family celebration in the area. On arrival we were met by Valerie who after showing us our room made us a welcome cup of tea with biscuits We stayed in the garden room which was comfortable, just a pity the weather wasn't good enough to enjoy the lovely garden. We also had bathrobes which was unexpected but appreciated. On the first evening we enjoyed a drink in the lounge with some other guests. Breakfast on both mornings was well cooked and plenty of it. All of the staff we met were very friendly, helpful and cheerful from the waiting staff to David who had the misfortune of having to try to mend the light I had broken. The owner Valerie was lovely and nothing was too much trouble. I would highly recommend this as a place to stay, just a pity we only had two nights.
