Samosir Cottage Hotel is a lovely hotel with magnificent views across Lake Toba. The rooms are very comfortable, the food is excellent (beware the really large portions when you order). Staff is very helpful, they even made sure i got a complete breakfast even though I had to leave very early.

This is the best hotel in Samosir. Location isn't far from ferry. Room is spacious and the view is amazing. Breakfast is also good.

Everything is a little slower and grungier today as tourist-oriented Indonesia still reels from their covid shut down and Bagus Bay is no exception. Don't expect 5-star accommodations but know that the staff are kind and helpful and even those who don't speak much English will try to help you figure things out. Sadly, the Wed/Sat Batak dances don't seem to be happening even though they are still advertised. Good value budget place with some beautiful (and some dull) architecture and rooms. Bring all your own toiletries, including soap, since those aren't included. It is a popular place with both local families and foreigners and the restaurant has tasty food.

Hospitality is different. The greeting was short and sweet. I was shown to my room without a word. Breakfast is only available upon request. Room cleaning was not carried out. In short, the location is great but not difficult on an island. I wouldn't go there again book .

We had a great stay at Tuk Tuk Timbal bungalows. Our room was right by the water with nice views, simple, but perfect for the price. The ferry from Parapat drop us off there directly. The staff were friendly and organized a tour of the island and a nearby waterfall. Tuk Tuk Timbal is a little out of town which we liked for the peace and quiet, while being within walking distance from restaurants and other attractions if you don't mind a longer walk which we were happy to do.
