We stayed at Yu Kiroro for one week and it was the best vacation my family could have asked for! You definitely need a car if you will be staying here and there’s plenty of parking for guests outside and near the hotel across the street. The entrance is very welcoming and we felt at home right away. When you check in, each guest receives a complementary parfait and one access to private onsen. The hotel was very clean and very quiet. The kitchen is well-equipped with dish-washer, oven, microwave, and a massive fridge so we simply bought groceries when we felt like staying in at a local supermarket (I recommend TRIAL). The bathrooms were also very nice with room and floor heating so your feet won’t get cold in the morning. The sheets were crisp and clean and the massive window in each room had an amazing view and sunlight on a good day. The restaurant within the hotel was very affordable yet served high quality food with great view of nature. They also offer family friendly activities such as horse riding, morning walks, and outdoor bbq. Overall, it was a great experience to escape from the city to relax and go to onsen every night before it closes at 12 am. They are also very reasonable with room keeping and respectful with our privacy and time as we stayed in a lot. This place is a must try, and we will definitely go back especially in winter! We could not prepare the room that we had reserved for 4 days and 3 nights (stay without meals) from August 3rd to 6th. It's like double booking. There was contact on the day of departure, and I arranged another hotel on my own in a hurry. After that, I exchanged e-mails with the sales manager, and was told that the manager would contact me, but more than a week has passed and I have not received an apology or an apology. I made a reservation from Rakuten Travel, but I was contacted on the day that it was not possible, so please be careful. We have also submitted a report to Rakuten.

Sho Inn completely overturned me, a picky person like me, because it was incredibly tidy and clean!!! Each person will have his or her own room, a comfortable and spacious bed, and can enjoy the snowy scenery outside the window. The public areas are extremely simple and clean, and the bathrooms and showers are impeccably clean and convenient. The hotel is designed in a simple and tasteful style, with nothing superfluous or missing. Everyone’s needs are different, but I think it’s a good place to stop along the way. The boss is very kind and helpful. He is always ready to complete the other party's requests, including pick-up and drop-off and transportation requirements, and it is free of charge. What I am very grateful for is that I admired the tissue box next to the sink. After asking for the location, he immediately drove me to buy it, and then sent me to the station to buy a ticket and leave. Unforgettable thanks. What I miss even more is the human kindness...

A delightful hostel run by students from the local Otaru University of Commerce. I had originally imagined this place to be a shabby student dig but the property, a newly renovated house once lived by the CEO of a local company, was better equipped and maintained than some of the hotels I stayed in the centre of this town. As I felt tad too old for a dormitory experience (I had enough of that at school) I opted to stay in a single room. Even in the coldest of seasons the room was warm and cozy, and the bed was comfortable and clean. If you are safety-minded you could ask for a room key, though I found this totally unnecessary as there was always someone looking after the house. There is a large kitchen you can use to prepare food, and unless you are looking to indulge in heavy cooking the facility is more than adequate, and in the living room there was a low table and a kotatsu, a Japanese table with the under-the-table heater and a blanket. You can’t experience this in a hotel normally but it is a traditional winter fixture in Japanese homes. An added bonus of staying here was the chance to speak to the students about their life in Otaru. It was a welcome change to the bland experience I had gotten used to staying in a hotel, and a priceless experience spending time with the young local entrepreneurs.
