Arrived to find the Reception area being completely renovated -- fair enough, but there was no signage to indicate where to find the temporary reception, which was in a makeshift corner of a conference room and neither clean nor inviting. Very young, rumpled staff were friendly but completely inexperienced and unprofessional. No elevator to get our heavy bags to our room, and no reason why. Was told by Sarah (?) that the included continental breakfast would feature 'pastries, yogurt and fruit'; the next morning, we were directed instead to a platter of pre-wrapped slices of banana bread in a basement lounge area. That was 'breakfast'. We said this was unacceptable and the young chap on reception agreed, but had absolutely no apology nor insight as to why this was the case. Despite a spacious, clean and well appointed bedroom, the entire experience was rather a shock and certainly a disappointment. The Interlaken has been a feature of the Lakeville landscape for decades, and I expected far more than this.
We've stayed in the White Hart before, and have always loved the ambiance, rooms, and food. However this time was so disappointing. We stayed in room 32, which was a lower level King bed suite in the separate cottage. The room itself was lovely. However, I would never stay here again. Starting in the early evening, and then again first thing in the morning, every single footstep in the upstairs room could be heard as though it was a herd of elephants. We finally called the front desk, who tried to help, and when the upstairs guests did not answer their phone, the staff member came over to knock on their door. They did have children who must have been constantly in motion, although the guests denied it. They may not have realized that in such an old buidling, every step can be heard below, and even when told, did not think it appropriate to try and restrain their children. While the hotel staff expressed their apologies (in the evening, and again when I mentioned it at checkout), nothing was done. Recognizing that guest behavior is out of the control of management, these upper floor rooms should not allow young children (unless some sort of sound proofing is added). These rooms are not inexpensive, and for a special evening away, we were sorely disappointed. Update: Mgmt did recognize our suboptimal experience and refunded us a portion of our stay, which was the appropriate response for an inn of their quality.

We chose this Inn since we had never been to this part of Connecticut. The proximity to Xfinity Hall made it easy for us to attend a show. From the start, our experience was unusual. We arrived at 5:00 pm to an empty front desk area. We waited for quite a while before finding a number on the desk and calling it for assistance. We've traveled to many other Inns and B&Bs and have never experienced this type of welcoming. Typically, the front desk area is always staffed. Not so at the Blackberry. This set the tone for the rest of our stay. Whether it was looking for ice or an ice bucket, or, any of our other needs, it was a task to try and find someone to help. This is not indicative of a good customer experience. We stayed in room 2 in the main building. It faces the street and proved to be very noisy from the constant road traffic. Be sure to pack earplugs if you book this room. Upon arrival on a hot and humid day, we soon discovered that the room was not prepped for the weather. The AC was off and plenty of windows were open. It took quite a while to cool the room down. On a positive note, the morning breakfast was a saving grace. Prepared to order with plenty of options, it was truly worth eating at the Inn.
When I was first doing research on places to stay for my birthday weekend, I knew I wanted to find something that was peaceful, a little ways away from home (New York City!), and just had that special quality - so, of course, I prioritized bed and breakfasts, and that's when I found Manor House Inn. Not only did it check all of my boxes (beautiful and homey, spacious, private but still personal), Kathy, the innkeeper, went above and beyond to make my birthday a special experience. She made a special breakfast for me in the morning, recommended some local spots, and just overall made it feel like a one-of-a-kind experience. I couldn't be happier with this place. It feels like stepping into your favorite novel on the English countryside. Plus, it's close to a number of nearby spots, both in nature and in the neighboring cities - a little something for everyone on a quiet weekend away. Thank you, Kathy - 10/10, will recommend to anyone and everyone!
We enjoyed our one-night stay at the Inn at Pine Plains. The room (Smithfield) was super clean and comfortable, with a great mattress, soft rugs on the floor, a large bathroom with a walk-in shower, a desk and chair, and an armchair. Breakfast was tasty and plentiful and the coffee was excellent! We enjoyed chatting with Nicole at breakfast and with Patti upon arrival. Highly recommended.
