Paulo was the best! He is why I give this place 4 stars! He was the friendly front desk person that you want to have greet you after a long journey. Although there was a long line of people waiting to check in, he did not make anyone feel rushed and gave you the information you needed to orient yourself.

On a busy street that feeds one of the main bridges over the Modego River, the hotel is at first intimidating to locate & park at, and unloading luggage. Once inside, the rooms are standard EU class but it is the staff that made the difference for us. Isabel in particular was extremely friendly and helpful with advice- free parking at several spots, free shuttle van, possibly the nicest laundromat in the world (!), and restaurant options. She and the staff were tremendous, so I would recommend a stay there on tour of Portugal. Cheers.

Fantástica localização , da para ir a pé a universidade para visitar a Biblioteca Joanina e a capela de São Miguel a curta caminhada , por estar mais próximo não há muito morro a subir . Tem estacionamento , não necessita reserva , é gratuito , há elevador a partir da garagem . Quarto confortável , silencioso ,café da manhã de acordo , com boas opções . Os funcionários são destaque , atenciosos e atentos a dificuldade . Tivemos um problema na chegada que a princípio nao havia sido localizado a reserva , mas depois foi localizado . Porém nesse período de checagem agradecemos as funcionárias que nos atenderam no horário da chegada , em especial a Magda que foi proativa em resolver a dificuldade e ter o quarto a nossa disposição juntamente com a garagem .

Nice, big hotel with great views over Coimbra. This hotel is situated on a hill a little out of town. Our room was medium size with a K Size bed and a good sized bathroom. We stayed at this hotel as part of our tour with a group. Bathroom had a shower over the bath. No tea/coffee making facilities. Safe in the room. At night we could hear a lot of noise coming from music down below the hotel and other noisy guests in the passage ways. We had dinner at the hotel but found there were not enough staff to cater for the group ordering drinks. We were also unable to go to the bar to get a drink as it was not staffed.

A very modern hotel with many facilities. A little out of the way from town centre but set in a more rural/residential area. Exactly what we needed after the hustle and bustle of downtown Coimbra. This is a lovely old palace. The rooms are big and visually comfortable, and the bed is huge. The area around is lovely so why not a good experience? The the building outside looks perfect and the common areas look good too, but the room smells really bad of old and dusty carpets and we couldn’t leave the windows open because the road in front is noisy with fast cars passing by. There is no insonorization between rooms and with the corridor. We woke up with our neighbours in the room in front of ours. Definitely not a 4 star in that regard. The bathroom is nice and it has 4 star perks but smells terribly do to lack of pipe sanitation. It’s not just charmingly old, it really smells bad. The woods are splitting and it looks like the building was renovated in the 1990s. We were quite happy to be there because it’s really a lovely palace located in a beautiful area but we couldn’t rest properly. They are charging too much for what is being offered.

There is such to commend this hotel: the setting in the old part of Lousã, the building which was a former palace, the gardens and pools, the views overlooking the forested hills, the breakfast and the period rooms. But what makes this place more than excellent is the quality of the people who work there, we never encountered anyone front office or back office who wasn't welcoming, pleasant and helpful. There are some things to be aware of: the hotel is a former palace which makes the public spaces more than you might expect but some of the rooms, though well equipped can be small. But I would definitely return. TJ

A gift for the senses.
We thought the hotel concept was fabulous and I don't really agree with renovating the facilities too much, only what is essential, since it would lose charm and increase the price. We consider the current quality/price ratio to be very good.
Great choice for the joy of the eyes, for rest and for a walk through the forest, which, together with the climate and the moderate tourist attraction at this time of year (December long weekend), make it a very special place.
Shared rooms are an enjoyment for the senses, as we said before, and the rooms, despite any damage they may present, do not leave you indifferent either. And the easy and free parking next to the hotel is another incentive.
The staff's attention to any questions or concerns, together with their explanations about the hotel and its history, makes you feel welcome and well treated.
Returning is essential.

Outstanding
Silvia was our receptionist and go-to person. She was truly AMAZING! She is a delightful young lady who was our contact person, greeted us, carried our luggage ( the stairs were a bit difficult for me), called taxis for us, brought extra blankets, prepared breakfast, recommended restaurants and sites in Ciombra…there was nothing she wasn’t available to do. She was always smiling and friendly. While the property is on a large piece of land and is farm like it is NOT in the countryside. It is in a suburban area 10-15 minutes from Coimbra. We were specifically attracted to being in the countryside so this was a disappointment. Even with Apple CarPlay, our gps system, we missed the street several times. The name of the street is not well marked. The property is behind a lovely gate and parking is readily available. This was a plus. Our room was very large ( bedroom, separate living room, bathroom, entry space)and had lovely views overlooking the grounds, the pool and distant mountains. We booked on *********** “ Family Room with Balcony” 441 sq/ft. and stayed Sept 29-Oct.1. The room was stylish and very clean with big windows overlooking the grounds. However there were many flaws. There were no glasses for water in the room, no water provided, no conditioner in the shower, no robes or slippers, only 2 very flat pillows, one set of towels. We were offered use of the communal kitchen but this was not inviting. We were shown the refrigerator and told there was a different shelf designated for each room. Too much like a college dorm or work fridge. We could use the kitchen as we wished but did not avail ourselves. Silvia did immediately bring us an extra duvet when we found the room too cold. She did offer to turn the radiators on but we were afraid we would find it too hot.There was no thermostat for us to control. There were enough outlets for adapters and charging cables. We did not expect USB ports as is common in Portugal.wi-fi was good. The worst was the shower. It’s a beautiful walk in with a rain shower but on the first morning my husband had cold water. I had scalding hot then tepid then cold. And yes…we do know how to turn on and adjust the water. On the second morning we both had COLD showers. The hair dryer was terrible…barely dried my short hair. The room was not serviced. We came back after a long day exploring Coimbra to find an unmade bed and wet towels. So we made the bed and used wet towels… The breakfast, again Silvia was the star, was in a small dark room with a buffet selection on a narrow sideboard. There were decent choices…cheeses, bread and good coffee and scrambled eggs. One table was so close to the sideboard we couldn’t access those foods without being rude. We did take taxis into Coimbra . We thankfully had a hotel address card to show drivers for our return trip. Even with that, both drivers had a difficult time finding the property. We stayed in very nice hotels on our Portugal trip. The ”stories” are mostly about how easy they were to reach and how convenient they were for parking. ”Reaching” this one involved a 15-minute re-route, but once we took the right turn, parking was a breeze! The hotel sits opposite the retaining wall of the university above it. Guests can park all along the wall on the alley approaching the hotel and then place a parking permit on their dash. Finding the hotel in the first place was trickier! GPS had us approaching it. We were SO close! But we missed the last narrow, alley-like turn. Suddenly we had a 15-minute re-route until we could approach the hotel again. Play very close attention to your GPS!! Nice location. Nice room. Nice breakfast. Helpful staff.

GGuest UserWe were very happy with our two-night stay in Studio no. 12, which was spacious, tastefully appointed and had everything we needed. The host/manager Ricardo was very solicitous, regularly checking that we were satisfied and asking whether we needed anything. Our only real bone of contention had less to do with Sophia Studios and more to do with the location, with noise from the [busy] street outside and nightclubs and the like penetrating the fully closed windows and shutters. That aside, the location is excellent, within walking distance of everything you'll want to see.

I used this hotel for a week during a conference and was very pleased with it. It had a high level of cleanliness and my room was spacious and well appointed. Best of all was the service. I arrived horribly late, almost 11.00pm, on my first night having not eaten since the morning, and was treated with great kindness by the person on the desk who made the effort of phoning around and arranging for a place in town to stay open for me to eat. She didn't need to, but she did. That set the tone for a good experience all week.

Me at 72 years, accustomed to traditional hotels couldn´t resist to stay here. Looked crazy enough to dare. And it is different. The rooms aka boxes are what was promised, comfortable bed, and a bathroom large enough. Friendly, helpful and engaged people working there. The breakfast was like the rooms, very small. Half size bread etc didn´t match the €6 pricetag. Overall it was a strange but pleasent experience. Very much because of the personal.

GGuest UserHotel is by beach . Room is big and clean. Breakfast is very good. The supermarket is in next door. The town Sitio near Nazare is on the cliffs. The views are very beautiful and looks down the beach and town. It worths the visit. The parking on the hilltop is limited but if you go there early , you are still able to find place to park.
The receptionist is very good and helpful. When
I arrived at the hotel in the evening, I found flat tire. The young guy worked at the front desk helped me to call the rental car company to solve the problem.
I definitely recommend this hotel to friends.

GGuest UserSince the first contact, everything was very good. The service, availability and hosting of all the staff/professionals was extraordinary. They upgraded my reservation and offered ”a mimo”. The suite was very comfortable, wide, pleasant, clean and everything worked perfectly. The breakfast was very varied, with fresh products of quality and these are constantly being repaired, the gym was well equipped, the pool was clean and the Turkish bath was available.

Tive uma experiência maravilhosa na Pousada da Juventude de Coimbra! Desde o momento da chegada até a partida, tudo foi impecável. O atendimento foi extremamente cordial e profissional, fazendo-me sentir bem-vinda durante toda a estadia. Os quartos em que fiquei são espaçosos, limpos e muito confortáveis. As instalações são boas e o pequeno almoço é excelente, com fruta e uma ampla seleção de itens frescos e saborosos. A localização da Pousada é excelente, com fácil acesso às principais atrações da cidade. Além disso, a equipa de colaboradores esteve disponível para fornecer recomendações e ajudar no que foi preciso. Recomendo a Pousada da Juventude de Coimbra sem nenhuma hesitação e certamente voltarei em futuras viagens. Uma experiência a repetir!

SSHENGThe rooms are air-conditioned with warm and cold air, very clean and tidy, and the hot water is great. The ventilation fan in the toilet will automatically turn off at night and turn on during the day. Three languages are spoken at the front desk and the service is also very good. Overall the price/performance ratio is very good, the room can see the Mondego River, opposite the park, there is Burger King nearby, and the central street of Coimbra is 5 minutes' walk away. European hotels do not provide toiletries and there are no slippers in the rooms. Very satisfied.

The price is a big difference, with good accommodation with excellent room at an excellent price. Even without air conditioning and making much warm during the day, having the windows partially open at night was more than enough to have a good night sleep. It needs attention to details on repairs that are not very expensive and, because they have not been done, they end up giving a bad look to a room that has been renewed recently: the tower is not very fixed in the movie, a curtain cannot be collected and the shower is not well fixed on the support during the bath.
