The Sun

4th year in a row and the Sun never fails to deliver. Lovely staff, charming rooms (different room each visit), fine ales and good banter, the food keeps getting better and better. Breakfasts are lush. Will be returning for a 5th year without a doubt.

What a wonderful charming hotel, It was like stepping back in time. but beautiful, and no air and Graceses. wonderful happy helpful staff, my room was a small double which was not a problem as being a single occupant. and not sharing it was ideal for me. Also it was comfortable beautiful bed and very clean with beautiful views form the two windows in the room. When booking place to stay the photo's in the Adds some time are not what you get when you get to the accommodation. Please believe me in this case the Photo are as true a days long every photo i looked was a true memory for me we myself and friend didn't need to take all the photo's we could have just cut and past as they are exactly what you will see and get.

Out of the hustle & bustle of the centre of Coniston is the Sun Hotel. From the centre, where you find the Coppermines Cottage offices, turn right & take the slight gradient. Approximately 200 metres up you will find the Sun Hotel, with a reasonable sized car park on the right & you have arrived. The hotel has many rooms to eat, drink & be merry, including a lovely outdoor area. A very full menu awaits your pleasure, enhanced by a full bar for you to enjoy a drink(s) with your meal. There’s plenty to tempt your tastebuds & probably enough to tempt you back!

Just returned after 2 nights at the Sun Inn, used as a base for walking some Wainwright fells, I was in room number 5, no complaints at all, single room with a double bed, excellent shower, tea / coffee making facilities, all good. Cooked breakfast was excellent, good quality ingredients are obvious, along with cereals, yoghurts, toast and juices, set me up nicely for a day on the fells. I only ate in the evening once during my stay, got a table in the bar, really varied menu, but as I wasn’t particularly hungry I had soup and chunky chips, perfect for my appetite, soup was delicious. Beer garden is lovely, lots of seating and it’s a real sun trap. All the staff I came across were very friendly indeed, chatty and eager to help / assist. A minor observation, but didn’t affect my stay at all, couple of things need smartening up / updated / a lick of paint, but I would definitely stay at the Sun again if I’m in the area.

Quite the most perfect risotto this side of Taormina, just lovely, empty plates all round Usual friendly staff and atmosphere We haven’t been here in a while, but the food and beer certainly lived up to the reviews we’ve seen and still keeping the local vibe Thank you

I have to admit that I`m biased when it comes to the Sun, as it`s one of my favourite places to stay in the Lakes and I`ve stayed many times over the years. This is the first time I`ve stayed since they`ve started refurbing the place though. My mate and I stayed in the twin room for the weekend at the beginning of July. The room is one that`s been recently done and it was perfect for what we needed. Spotlessly clean, comfortable and with the added bonus of a very large bath, which was a godsend after the trail race that we ran in nearby. Stunning views thrown in for free too ! All of the windows to the hotel rooms have been replaced with new double glazed units, cutting out most of the outside noise, so the rooms are pretty much silent come night time. We didn`t dine at the Sun, but the breakfasts were superb, with a massive choice, all served by a genuinely lovely lady, who really looked after us the whole weekend. There`s a massive choice of real ales on the bar and every pint we had was in absolute tip top condition. My pick being the Swan Blonde, which was like nectar. The lads behind the bar have been there for a good few years now and really know their beers and we had a great laugh with them. I`ve read a few comments on the price of drinks at the Sun, it`s actually the cheapest pint in Coniston. The Blackbull down the hill, charges 5.80 for a pint of their Bluebird bitter, which they brew on the premises, yet the Sun charge £5.00 for the exact same beer - work that one out ! All in all a perfect stay and a massive thanks to all the staff for making our stay so enjoyable.
