It quickly becomes clear that the Kolfuschgerhof is not your usual 4-Star Austrian ski hotel. The hotel has had some major improvements and upgrades that makes you wonder how come it is not categorized to be 5-Star. You first of all get the feeling that this is a family run hotel, the staff cares, and attention is paid to details. They will sort your ski rental, lift cards, lunch reservations, transport and everything else. We really had a lot of requests, and it was never a problem. Secondary, the facilities are really great. The super cozy newly built lounge area with fireplaces, a bar, boardgames and a panoramic view over the ski area, this is the perfect area to have a hot drink and relax after returning from skiing. The newly built outdoor hot-water pool, spa area and gym are also top notch. The large indoor pool was a hit with our son. We stayed in one of the older rooms as we booked very late, but it was perfectly fine, and actually had some old school charm to it. That being said, then we will book at bit earlier next year to get new room. Food was in general, like in the whole area, very good. Lots of choice, and a kitchen that does not mind changing the menu a bit on request. Only maybe the breakfast needs a bit of an update, it seemed a bit 80’s like. The restaurant service was excellent, attentive, friendly, and fast. The hotel has a ski-room with boot dryers, and a free on-demand ski-shuttle, where we never waited more than a few minutes. We stayed a week and really had zero complains (doesn’t happen often), it was the perfect ski holiday, we will be back for sure! Recommended restaurants: - Jimmi’s Hütte: Close to Kolfuschgerhof, some of the best food in the whole area. - Armentarola: Old School hotel with huge outdoor terrace, amazing Italian food. Perfect place for lunch in the sun. - Friedrich August: Pizza place with amazing pizzas. The place is a bit chaotic though. - Steakhouse l’Fana: In La Villa, amazing meats, come for dinner. - Edelweis Hütte: The restaurant part, not the self-service. In the Colfosco area, excellent food – average service. Skiing: - Sella Ronda: The famous round trip, takes a whole day including lunch, can be done clockwise or counterclockwise. Has some bottleneck under-dimensioned lifts, so get up early to do it. Okay to do once but skip it during absolute high-season. - The ski area to the East is in general better, less people and wider and better slopes. Here one also finds the famous Gran Risa world cup slope. - Lagazuoi ski tour: Amazing ski tour on top of the mountain. Take the shuttle from Armentarola to the Lagazuoi lift, then ski down the 7,5 km amazing piste, stop at the Scotoni hut in the middle for lunch or freshly baked Krapfen. At the end of the piste take the horse lift back to Armentarola. Amazing scenery and piste.
