Hotel Del Viale

We never leave reviews but we have to this time! It absolutely exceeded our expectations after reading other reviews and looking at the pictures. This hotel really needs to update their photos! The hotel is traditional, absolutely spotless, very very friendly and serves amazing food. The maids came into our room everyday and put fresh towels and toiletries in. We had 4 courses every night and they were scrumptious! There is a free shuttle bus from the hotel to the door of the gondola which was fab. We loved this hotel but the photos don’t do it justice they really need to be updated, they charge so little and they could be getting a lot higher rate. Thank you so much for an amazing stay, you guys are fab!

We booked at short notice after other choices had sold out and having seen some pretty negative reviews and a lack of recent reviews, we were a little apprehensive, but this is a lovely little, family-run hotel that represents excellent value for money. The décor is fairly dated, but very well maintained and I personally loved looking at the mid-century art and furniture. It has standard, ski-style rooms. Compact, but clean and have everything you need. Beds are comfortable, with extra pillows/blankets in the wardrobe if needed. Location is a 10 minute walk from the town, with a hotel mini bus shutting guests to the lifts and bus station if requested each morning and afternoon. It doesn’t run all day long which some reviews have complained about, but if you’re planning to go to and from your hotel all day long and want your hotel to facilitate that for you – spend more. The view from the hotel on a morning is lovely and you get the sun late afternoon/evening so you can sit and have a relaxing drink. Food was great. The continental breakfast buffet has lots of options to fill you up, with a self-service coffee machine for cappuccino, latte, americano etc – coffee was really tasty. Evening meals are a salad buffet and 4 courses which you choose from each evening. The pasta course alone could fill you up. All was very tasty. The bar isn’t as good as other hotels we’ve been to. Lots of spirit choices but no draft beer and guests didn’t seem to be using it much which was a shame. There is no real boot room, which was a little peculiar. Instead, just a space under the stairs to leave your skis/boards and a bench to pop your boots on. There were no rules about not taking boots to rooms though, so we just popped our boots on upstairs before getting the mini bus. That obviously means no boot-warmers to dry them out overnight, but there’s no lack of heating, so sticking them near the radiators overnight sorted them out. Staff are polite and friendly and work hard. The owner/manager comes across a bit grumpy sometimes, but hes actually fine. Just plain-speaking rather than OTT gushy/welcoming. The ladies at breakfast and dinner and all other staff were very friendly and helpful. Overall, this was a great option that pleasantly surprised us and you really can’t go wrong for the price!

Having read a couple of negative reviews I was nervous of staying here. However, those reviews were not what I experienced. Yes the décor is dated, but it is quaint, very clean, warm and welcoming, the rooms are cleaned everyday and towels changed everyday as well. The staff were fantastic, fun and very helpful. Having stayed in hotels all over the world, I would have no hesitation returning here again. Thanks for a great stay. Dave

The place is out of the 1970s, the single beds are to small, the en-suite has no room. The shower tray does not drain and the shower curtain floods the floor. The free shuttle bus to the ski lift does not run between 1-30pm and 4pm so you are stuck if you or your child want to leave early. We had to walk back after ringing the hotel to be told ring at 3pm then to be told it runs from 4pm. The only saving grace is the food is good. My advice stay somewhere else

This was our sixth visit and we are always made to feel welcome. Our room was spacious and comfortable. The restaurant always produces tasty food and the service very good indeed. We ski when we are at the Del Viale and they have a regular mini bus to and from the Dolonne Gondola. We look forward to returning in 2024.

The hotel is kind of frozen in time. It's one of, if not the oldest hotel in Courmayeur. The interiors and furnishings look like they were from the original opening date. Internet is strong, but can drop out occasionally. The hotel doesn't skimp on the heating. Good quiet location with very little traffic. An 8 - 10 minute easy walk to the town centre. The shuttle runs 3 times on the half hour starting at 8am in the morning, the 1350, 1600, 1630 & 1700. It could do with a pickup at 1500 instead of 1700. Food: stayed here with a large package holiday company, and so was half board. 4 course evening meals were never great. On the other hand, breakfast was cold buffet. Help yourself. Excellent coffee machine. There was no-one doling it out. The dining room is quaint and furnished in yesteryear style. My room was no bigger or smaller than any other I've stayed in in France or Italy. Basic but clean. Very comfy bed. Blankets but no duvet. Bathroom had been renovated recently. Plenty of hot water. TV was small with lots of Italian language channels, only one English speaking. The staff in the dining room and reception were friendly, helpful and welcoming. However the gentleman who owns the hotel can come across as cold and a bit brusque. Would I stay here again? Yes, but only if B&B basis. It is fair value if booking outside of a package. There are other, better hotels in Courmayeur, but dearer, of course. The stay was much improved by two other UK couples staying in the hotel. Thank you Fiona and Ian, and Dawn and Chris.
