We just returned home from a lovely vacation to Dartmoor, and we decided this time to stay at the Two Bridges Hotel. The hotel itself is tucked away in a perfect spot within the park, giving walking access to the beautiful path to Wistman's Wood, in addition being a good jumping off point to head to several hikes, walks, and tors. Things to note about the hotel: 1) We found prior to our arrival that the website to book was a bit confusing. We specifically wanted a king size bed and we had to call the hotel in order to ensure that our room would have one. I feel it would behoove the establishment to have this listed on the actual booking pages. Even the woman I spoke to said it was a bit confusing when I called. 2) This is not a run of the mill chain hotel. This is a locally owned establishment that has seen many years, and countless generations. It doesn't have modern trimmings like a pool, gym, etc. What it does have is a lovely dining room, and two lounges with big beautiful fireplaces and clocks that are never on the right time. 3) We stayed in room 38 which is on the main level past the kitchens. It was a really nice room, a bit dated, but we didn't mind at all. Mostly, we couldn't get the temperature sorted. If it was on anything higher than 1, you would be sweltering by the middle of the night. In addition, there is a light on that goes off after 11 that is very bright right outside the main window. If you ask, they will turn it off if you go to sleep before then. The room itself had a lovely four poster bed, and a beautiful bathtub. The main two things with the bathroom were the toilet often wouldn't flush, and the water pressure was slow, so you need patience. 4) The food here was lovely. I have celiac disease and I was looked after very well. On our first night, we did the tasting menu, which we thoroughly enjoyed, and did breakfast there each morning and found the options to be delicious. The one thing I will say that for me (the gluten free party) wasn't as good as elsewhere was the gluten free cream tea. My husband had a regular cream tea and said it was delicious. 5) The service here was really lovely. In particular, Jules in the evenings, and Natasha during breakfast. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and look forward to returning in a couple of years!
