We came here to celebrate a special occasion and had the wine pairing lunch. This included the tasting of 4 different wines. We enjoyed the Surrey Gold and a Demi-sec. The sparkling and red were underwhelming. Sadly weren’t asked for our feedback on each as we were the only guests in the restaurant on a Friday lunchtime and we spent the majority of our time alone. Served alongside our wine tasters was a board of a good sized piece of cheddar, a blue, rolled venison pieces and some smoked chicken. This came with some lovely warm olive bread sticks which were plentiful. The ground floor views from the conservatory were lovely of the vineyards. Our waitress Sophie had only been in her job for a few weeks, so her knowledge was minimal of the wines. We were given a sheet to read up on, although it never mentioned the grape variety for each. It would have been more fun to have had a Sommelier or similar talking us through. Our last pairing was with a couple of truffles each. We were told ‘let us know if you require a top up for them’ before our waitress disappeared again and we had to call over a new waiter ‘Ben’ who had just arrived. Then we saw Sophie briefly wander around again. No one came over to see if we had enjoyed our experience at the end. So we got up to leave and collect my coat that had been locked away. We stood and waited for 15 minutes at reception in front of Ben who was on a call to a potential guest. He refused to acknowledge us or come away from the phone briefly, so in the end we left without my coat and took off to the Deli for a visit. I was freezing cold outside as only had a dress on. My husband then returned to find Sophie and asked for my coat and for their names. This whole experience was shocking and we left feeling extremely angry and disappointed, hence writing such a review (which I don’t take lightly). We do not recommend and would look to have the eating/drinking experience at Denbies Vineyard estate, which Sophie confirmed was nothing to do with them. In hindsight we definitely booked the wrong place for lunch.
