East Claremont Guest House

A quiet room within a traditional character house. A lovely comfy bed & newly refurbished bathroom made for a sound night's sleep. A well equipped room. A fine breakfast cooked to order. Easy walking distance of the city, playhouse, John Lewis etc. A welcoming host.

We had a great stay at the Easy Claremont Guesthouse. Tommy is a very welcoming and friendly host, and the location is ideal - a short walk from Princes Street, but very quiet for a great night’s sleep after a busy day sightseeing. The breakfast was spectacular - full Scottish, with even a vegan version! There was a huge choice of continental breakfast too, with pastries, yoghurt, fruit and cereal.

Location is great and not noisy. When you arrive all areas are cluttered with numerous items. The owner has the right decor ideas, but the execution of these was very poor. The “paneling” in the room is wallpaper, with very bad cutting in around sockets, window and peeling away in the bathroom. The trim above the wallpaper is uneven in its finish and paint was on the curtains and wood work. The kettle had not been checked and had coffee in( not sure why someone would use it to make it in there). Asked for a replacement, was given the kitchen one which he said was cleaned, but was very sticky and dirty. This made us uneasy as this is used in food prep area and it was very unhygienic, so uneasy about everything else if they are touching this while making breakfast. Bedding was of a good standard and there was some lovely touches of chocolate coins. Shower had black Mould inside & out, plus shower fittings very loose, part of it came away in the hand and had to be put back in. Bed made a weird noise when you moved, which affected sleep. Didn’t stay for breakfast due to cleanliness of room/bathroom in general, mould and kettle issues meant we could not be sure the kitchen area was clean. This meant we had to pay for breakfast else where before we travelled home. Window was very dirty inside and out.

Lovely guesthouse situated quite central in Edinburgh. A short 10-15 minute walk into the new town or if you don’t fancy the walk there are plenty of buses running regularly. Very welcoming and lots of character in the building. Breakfast is served between 8 and 9.39 and my goodness it was amazing! I got the full Scottish both days. There is a large selection of breads, cereals, scones, fruit etc. We stayed in a basement room which was extremely cosy. It was clean and tidy and the TV even had Netflix so we could watch a movie/tv show before going to sleep on a night.

This is a lovely find with such Scottish character with a wonderful host Tommy.. The room was set up with lots of hidden extras!! Chocolate mints, full complimentary beverage, cotton wool balls, and full bathroom of toiletries. The breakfast is the best I’ve ever had.. with everything you could wish for and more. The best hidden secret is the lovely sweetie bowl in reception. Thank you Tommy for a truly Scottish stay in a true fashion xx

My wife and I stayed at this lovely guest house on 19th Aug, on a visit to the City. Tommy was an excellent host. Room, perhaps a little dated, but that's just personal taste. Bed super comfy, and piece n quiet. Had window open all night Breakfast fantastic. Dining area maybe a little too busy. Will be booking again for The Fringe '24. Thanx Tommy. Keep up the good work 👍

Couldn't ask for a better place to stay, owners are very nice and very helpful and nice to talk to. Beds are so comfy and the rooms go really dark at night would come again 😊😊 breakfast was good very good selection

A lovely guest house - perfect for our needs. We wanted somewhere to stay that was reasonably priced and we were not disappointed. We got to Edinburgh early morning and the tram took us to the top of the hill which led down to the accommodation. Tommy allowed us to leave our cases before check in which allowed us to explore without our luggage. Our room was ground floor and quaint. Very clean. Breakfasts were well catered for and very tasty. We were able to walk around the city from our accommodation, but the trams and buses are easily accessible too. Would recommend this guest house and would return.

Stay away at all costs. We booked over 6 months ahead and received a confirmation email with a booking reference number. We arrived at the house and met the manager who said we had no booking. I showed him the confirmation email and he made out he couldn't find it on his booking diary. After some discussion I noticed he did have my reservation. He then made out it was some technical error as some data from his website booking page was not compatible with the diary system. He indicated that this had happened previously but he never bothered to fix the problem. After indicating he had no spare rooms he closed the door and left us on the street.
