We wanted a short break in the Mosel area to get to know the wines and this hotel seemed perfectly located. Cochem just up the road is quite a large town but the hotel is on the edge of a small village which is mostly made up of wine businesses. The hotel is large and modern. The staff were all very friendly and our room nicely decorated and well equipped. It had beautiful views over the Mosel river but a slight downside was some traffic noise in the morning. Rooms on the other side have a lovely view over the vineyards. The restaurant has a fixed menu each night with a choice of 3 main courses, one of which seems to be vegetarian. The first night the food was decent but nothing special, but the second night it was really excellent, with a very good carrot and ginger soup to start, then a delicious venison stew or a well-cooked steak in Gorgonzola sauce. There’s a large wine list of course, including the hotel’s own label. Breakfast is standard for German hotels: plenty of cheese, ham, yoghurt, etc. We rented bikes from the village of Ernst and cycled along the river. Just be aware that many businesses including cafes and restaurants are closed between November and April except in larger towns. All in all a nice place to stay.
