We had the feeling that this was Paradise. So lovely, clean, beautiful. Everything we wished for was there. The gorgeous garden, the pools, the excellent breakfast. And fine weather also. We felt very lucky!

Had the most amazing meal served at the Alfama restaurant by Paulo & his team. Portuguese food journey & wine pairing was the perfect birthday celebration. Thank you so much to all the staff for a memorable evening. The food was superb & wine pairing exceptional

We stayed in a studio apartment which meant we had a fabulous space including a large balcony overlooking the gardens and the sea. We truly loved it and next time we want a garden apartment with access to private gardens and your own sun loungers. The place was very clean and there was plenty of choice for places to eat, our favourite was the traditional Portuguese restaurant, especially if you chose the wine pairing experience, available every Wednesday. We didn’t have time to use all of the facilities as we were fully occupied with trips to view the rest of the island. We never usually come back to a place twice (the world’s too big) but this is definitely a must so that we can explore both the hotel and the other beautiful parts of the island that we haven’t seen yet

Very nice hotel and rooms - excellent service and cleaning. Very nice pool area and good selection of bars and restaurants available in the hotel area. Good parking facility and our apartment/room was excellent with couple of bedrooms. Lido area is very nice and peaceful to enjoy a vacation.

Always enjoy our stay on the gardens at the Residence overlooking the sea,The hotel reception staff are very helpful and Clare at the Residence is a star.The maids and Spa staff are great as well.The gardens are as beautiful as ever,only thing is there are one or two places that feel a bit tired ,but nothing to spoil the stay.

We returned to Madeira in March 2024, after our first of several visits 25 years ago. This time, to celebrate our Silver Wedding Anniversary. Wow, we couldn't have picked a better hotel to celebrate our special occasion. The Residence one-bedroom apartment is huge and the best hotel room we have stayed in. The hotel complex is wonderful, with amazing staff and some of the best restaurants (Alfama & Il Basilico, both on site) we have dined at in Funchal. The location of the hotel is also perfect, being close to the shops, restaurants and attractions in the city.

The Residence Hotel was situated in a very nice location with a great range of rooms depending on your budget. Good restaurants with a range of menus and food options both at the hotel and nearby. Caution is advised however when considering visiting Madeira as the airport is very often closed to incoming and outgoing air traffic due to air turbulence not being safe enough for landing and take-off. My wife and I were delayed over 24 hours before we could leave, which we discovered is not an usual event for the island. Some people have in the past been delayed for days before the wind had dropped sufficiently for safe departure. Jet2 handled the chaos of transporting guests to other hotels nearby overnight in excellent fashion and could not praise their efforts too much.

Great studio apartment with all the all the facilities you require. Choice of restaurants within the complex was excellent. The spa and swimming pools were amazing both inside and out. The outdoor area was superb, the gardens were well kept and the orchid garden was exceptional. The only draw back was our room was facing a street with a bar with loud music which went on until late.

Beautiful island, even if it is raining! We did a full day Jeep tour with Mountain tours and our guide Michael was brilliant. Despite the weather being really bad Michael did a wonderful job of keeping us safe as well as showing us the various locations on the island. We also did a half day Levada walk which was lovely.
