I booked The Gables because it looked perfect for breaking our journey from our home to Scotland, was only a few miles off the M6, was dog-friendly and was not too expensive (though £15 for a dog was a bit excessive!). My greeting at reception was lovely and the receptionist immediately changed my room to a ground-floor one when I reminded her about our dog, there was ample parking, and it was easy to get from our room to the outside (bonus when you're travelling with a dog). We paid extra for breakfast (extremely good value) and it was delicious.
I had some minor gripes: our room was small - especially with a dog - with nowhere to lay suitcases nor hooks to hang (eg) coats, and a little 'shabby', we could find nowhere nearby to buy a snack (though there were shops, chippies a short way down the road as we found too late!), and we couldn't find anywhere nearby to exercise our very energetic dog. The bath towels hadn't been changed but this was an oversight and would have been immediately dealt with had I mentioned it at reception (I made do with the clean hand towel being far too lazy to contact reception again!).
If I travel that way again, none of my minor gripes would deter me from staying - they could all be managed now I know what they are - and I'd still recommend The Gables for a night's stop.
