Star Residence ICC Guangzhou

Location - Hotel located near guangzhou east train station, either 15 mins walk or 1 metro station. Restaurants nearby. Hotel - Hotel rooms are on 8th - 14th floor. I was given a room on 14th floor. Spacious room with living area and sleeping area separated. Sofa, table, mini kitchen, washing machine, TV are at living area. The room was clean and tidy. Hotel reception located on 7th floor, a bit confused when figuring out how to reach there. There was machine there, but security guard was responsible in delivery if parcel or food ordered.

I recently stayed at this hotel and was very disappointed with my experience. One of the main reasons I booked this property was because it advertised a gym and sauna facilities I specifically planned to use during my stay. However, upon arrival, I was informed that both the gym and sauna were shut down for maintenance. There was no prior notice given during booking, no email update, and no mention during check-in. This lack of transparency is unacceptable, especially when these amenities are highlighted as key features of the hotel. Had I known they were unavailable, I would have chosen another property that could meet my needs. While other aspects of the stay were adequate, the failure to inform guests about major facility closures left a negative impression. I hope the hotel improves communication in the future to avoid disappointing guests.

Overall, my experience staying at this hotel’s been great, the gym’s well equipped, a nice choice for those who’d prefer to stay nearby Guangzhou East railway station. Finally, I’d like to mention one of the hotel staff member, Nick, who’s been very helpful throughout my stay.

Great location and overall good value for money The hotel has an excellent location — lots of cafes, shops, and malls nearby. There’s a convenient delivery service on the first floor where couriers can leave your packages, and the staff is polite and helpful. The room was clean and modern, matching a 4-star standard. It had a fridge, microwave, and washing machine — very useful. However, there are a few downsides. The deposit is quite high (3000 RMB), and it’s better to leave it in cash because if you pay by card, it’s unclear when or if it will be refunded. This can be inconvenient if you’re a tourist flying home after your stay, as you end up stuck with local currency. There are no extras like a minibar or room service, so it’s unclear why the deposit is so large. Also, the amount seems to change — it’s not fixed. The gym is extremely small and basically empty, but you still have to pay to use it. Breakfast was very basic, so we didn’t use it at all. The room includes a kitchen, and you can request kitchenware from the hotel, but they don’t inform guests about this. The first time we stayed, we didn’t know and had to buy our own plates and utensils. Overall, for the price, this is a very good place to stay. I would recommend it.
