Lovely bedroom decor and comfortable, but too dark in the room to put make-up on. No plug in bathroom sink and broken tap handle were inconvenient. Breakfast was included -a disappointingly basic continental with poor service. You have to pay extra if you want anything cooked.

staying at the anchor inn for two nights.this B&B still opened,but their restaurant closed for renovation.it is “Winnie the pooh” theme accommodation.they have pooh, piglet,kanga, tigger rooms. i stayed at tigger room, actually i booked pooh room via email,but they closed at the end of May,maybe management changed.so they arranged tigger room for me. anyway, tigger is pooh’s friend,so it is great too, the room is spacious, with TV,cabinet,fan,bathroom with bathtub and shower,free drinks, kettle and toiletries.but the bathtub stopper cant work,water all drained away. breakfast served at their kitchen, zak or jack(not sure which spelling) prepared it for me,though simple breakfast, the portion quite big,satisfied with it. Hartfield is a good place to explore everything about Winnie the pooh.the location close to pooh stick bridge and the 100 acre wood.there is a pooh corner shop nearby,it is a cafe,but it has a small museum attached ,you can find many info about the author,the illustrator and of course the pooh books.i will be back,and hope that time,the restaurant already reopened,and i will appoint pooh room again,hope my dream will come true.

The Anchor Inn is excellen, the food is delicious and the rooms are more than lovely. We enjoyed the joyfull and warm hospitality! It was an absolute pleasure to stay at 'our Pooh Hotel', beautifully located in Winnie-the-Pooh - village Hartfield. Such fun!

We spent a night at The Anchor Inn as we were attending a wedding nearby. It’s a lovely, old pub with lots of character. Our room was clean and spacious if a little stuffy, but it was an incredibly hot weekend so that was to be expected. Breakfast service wasn’t great; we had to prompt a waiter to ask what the options were and he asked whether a full English would be okay. It was seemingly the only option, although we were all happy to have it and it was lovely when it arrived. Sadly the orange juice wasn’t freshly squeezed; it was more like watered down squash from a machine. The stairs up to the accommodation could also do with some love. They felt quite tatty compared to the rest of the pub. Overall, it was a good place to stay, but fell short in a few areas.

Oh so disappointing, the whole experience, so sad now. This has been a lovely pub over the years, I have known it since the mid 80s and lived in Hartfield for a number of years. It has been, and has the potential, to be a gold mine but is now just a shell of its former glory. The place was deserted on arrival and stayed that way all evening bar a few customers watching a FB match. The three of us ate Anchor Burgers for dinner, the rest of the menu was literally made up of road kill e.g. squirrel, rabbit, pigeon, which did not appeal. Staff were less than enthusiastic about their work. Stairs to the accommodation looked like they could do with a good clean. The rooms look lovely done out in Pooh Bear theme. Unfortunately the pillow cases and sheets were dirty with doggy paw prints on them, lots and lots of dust all over the skirting boards and corners and in the drawers. Shower was good. Toilet paper cheap and nasty. Continental breakfast not good, poorly presented, poorly tasting. Cooked option would have been another £10 and after already paying a hefty £180 for the bed (for one) thought it was a bit of a cheek. If I had read the Reviews from the past 6 months I doubt I would have booked the Anchor at all, and I certainly will not be booking it again unless the management is changed.

Lovely comfortable, clean room with a very comfortable bed. The place was super quiet too and the staff were relaxed and friendly. The breakfast was fine - I didn't have a pub meal. Very good value for money - I would stay again.

We chose to stay at The Anchor because we stayed there nine years ago for my brother’s wedding and loved it. How disappointed we were on our return. The place is in desperate need of redecorating and looks tired and neglected inside and out. It’s a popular pub full of character, rustic and very much dog friendly. However when you access the guest area the carpet on the stairs and landing is soiled, the walls are dirty and it doesn’t smell very fresh. We were in Poo room. Again the carpet was stained and hadn’t been hoovered so we made the manager aware of this and a young girl was promptly sent to do this. We requested a second towel from someone on arrival but despite being promised one it didn’t appear so we helped ourselves from the store cupboard whose door was wide open next to our room. Had it not been the fact that the bathroom and bed linen were clean and that we’d paid in advance we would have left the day we arrived. The staff are all very friendly and very young. We had one evening meal and two breakfasts which were tasty but turned up earlier on our last day for breakfast 8.30/45 to find the place empty. We left without it & without being able to pay our bar bill (this was settled over the phone later). The standard of service and cleanliness were not up to standard.

We have been to the Anchor Inn once before and enjoyed the atmosphere, room and food served. This time it was so different. The room was neat ,clean and pleasant. Breakfast however was a disaster. After being asked to specify when we would be wanting breakfast we arrived on time to find the dining area being swept and cleaned, which is never inviting. There was no menu and after 20 mins we were offered coffee. Staff walked past with their own drinks and plates of breakfast, whilst we waited. The coffee arrived ,barely drinkable, very, very thick and strong. Rather like Turkish coffee. Then, some 40 mins after taking our seats we were asked what we would like to eat. When we asked what was available we were told any sort of egg on toast or an English breakfast. Food arrived, no toast and the breakfast was OK, but nothing special. Cups were chipped znd cutlery unclean. The Anchor Inn is now looking rather shabby and unclean in the bar and eating areas. Staff were very friendly and dogs are always welcome. Sadly we will not be returning.

We were really looking forward to a stay at the Anchor Inn, but it’s a place that has marketed itself much better than the actual experience. We arrived on a Sunday when the Inn was being run by two surly teenagers. Our first impression was of large containers of dirty sheets and towels up the stair and corridors to our room. Our room was noisy with thumping music from the bar below, but this is a pub and it stopped around midnight. Our room smelled strongly of cigarette smoke masked by cleaning products which was pretty gross. The shower isn’t tall enough for anyone over 5’-9” to stand up in without cracking their head on the ceiling. There’s a weird emergency light inside the room which switches on multiple times during the night if you turn over in bed. Drove us crazy and we couldn’t work out how to switch it off. We included a request for dinner when we booked and paid for our room on line direct with the Anchor Inn. When we went down to the bar and ordered a beer at about 6pm, we were told they stopped serving food at 4pm and there wasn’t anywhere else to eat in the village. It would have been helpful if they’d told us that when we booked. I couldn’t drink the beer I just ordered because we had to get back into the car and drive somewhere to find something to eat. This was really annoying because I’d spent the last 4 hours driving and wanted that beer! On the plus side, the bed was comfy and breakfast the next morning was nice. We won’t stay here again and were really disappointed with our experience, particularly given how expensive this place is. Unfortunately we can’t recommend the Anchor Inn at all.
