Sunset Lodge & Safaris

We had a brilliant stay at Sunset Lodge and Safaris. The room was great, with opportunities to watch wildlife at night. The personal care of Vincent and Toni and their staff went above and beyond. Their game drive and walking safari were memorable experiences. Every meal was a small party. Thank you for this excellent experience. We hope to return one day.

If you want adventure or relaxation, get up with animals & birds or sleep in before a great breakfast this is the place to be. If you love the bush or want to love the bush, this is where zebras are invited for breakfast. If you want to stay somewhere, where giving you the best experience is priority this is the place to be. Sunset is NOT a 5 star lodge with fine dining and wines - it is low key, like being home with great hosts, staff and vibes. One of the best lodges that I personally have stayed at.

We had a lovely time at the lodge. Rooms are spacious and clean. How great is it to wake up, open your curtains and see the warthog, Impala or zebra walking past your window. The hosts are so open and friendly, and really want to make your stay perfect as possible. The food is tasty and plenty, we didn't missed anything. Vincent en Toni thank you again for the great hospitality, we will remember your place for a long time.

The team warm and welcoming. The kids really enjoyed. The food was amazing. The rooms are spacious with very clean and nice linen. Very close to the Kruger Gate. It is a beautiful place to go and refresh and connect with nature

Great lodge with nice food, nice staff, nice guests and most importantly nice hosts! We loved our stay at this lodge. Everything from the room to the scenery with animals was great. The hosts were also very helpful and attentionate, and were able to book tours for us. Thanks again Vincent and Toni for making your place feel like home.

Sunset Game Lodge is the best accommodation we've ever been in. Immediately again, but then longer. The owners are incredibly lovely and helpful, and we learned a lot about nature from Vincent. Wake up with Buffalos in the front of the room, eat dinner with the Impalas behind you, go for a walk with Vincent in the bush, have a talk with him and Toni on the terrasse. There are no fences between the wild animals and you, there is calm and knowledge and friendliness. What a experience and adventure! We learned a lot and enjoyed it very much!

Our time at Sunset Lodge & Safaris was absolutely wonderful. Toni & Vincent went above and beyond to make sure that we felt welcome and comfortable. We came over Chris**as and had the apparently unusual experience of having several rainy days during our visit. But this didn’t stop us from having a wonderful time, as Toni and Vincent helped us arrange weather appropriate activities. The lodge itself was a comfortable and calm place to relax when rain did cancel our events. The guest rooms were exceptionally comfortable and well appointed. They had air conditioning units (if needed) which we found that all places in SA do not, so thats a nice option to have. The food served daily was delicious and healthy. The grounds are beautiful and you can observe many animals from the lodge itself while eating outdoors or relaxing on the rooftop deck. I hadn’t realized there was a gym and it was just perfect. Our family is already talking about a return trip.

Sunset game lodge A new experience and our first visit to South Africa. We were met at Hoedspruit Airport by our host and owner Vincent. A short drive later we arrived at Sunset Lodge and Safaris (after seeing giraffes, zebra, wildebeest and many other wild animals on the Guernsey Estate). At the Lodge, we were met by Toni a co-owner and shown to our semi-tented bush cabin with veranda and open views of the bush and in the distance Mariepskop Mountain, at 1,945 metres above sea level one of the highest peaks in the northern Drakensberg. The accommodation met all expectations. It was very clean and comfortable with the unique experience of having both an indoor and outdoor shower. The food was excellent throughout the day starting with breakfast which consisted of cereals, yoghurt, fresh fruit, orange juice and choice of cooked breakfast, tea, coffee and water. Lunch was optional and we were offered delicious toasted cheese sandwiches or platters of cheese, ham, fruit and biscuits. Pre-dinner drinks were served from a well stocked bar as we sat around the open fire watching amazing sunsets with giraffes and zebras grazing just metres away. Dinner was a set two-courses each evening and we were offered beef fillet, ostrich fillet and chicken with a traditional South African sausage mainly cooked on the braa. All were served with an interesting variety of vegetables. Dessert was simple either beautiful, nutty chocolate brownies or malva pudding, a traditional South African dessert served with cream and or ice cream. Dinner was served on an open terrace, weather permitting, with fantastic views on to the bush and the Drakensburg mountains. The trips that Toni and Vincent arranged for us to the Kruger National Park, the Blyde Dam, Mariepskop and Hoedspruit were all excellent. The bush walks from the Lodge were special and you were able to feel part of the bush. Toni and Vincent’s personal attention to detail made our stay a wonderful experience to the extent that we are planning a return visit as soon as we are able. Mike and Catherine John November 2023

We had a family holiday at Sunset Lodge in October 23. From the moment we arrived at the lodge, where we were welcomed with traditional African singing, we knew we'd chosen the right place. The lodge is luxurious and spacious whilst retaining the spirit of real Africa. Vince and Toni are wonderful hosts, and arranged various trips and safaris for us whilst we were there. The pool is fantastic, the rooms are spacious and well appointed, and the food (cooked by the wonderful Beauty) is to die for. You are right in the middle of nature. We saw giraffe, zebra, buffalo, warthogs - all from the comfort of the lodge. It really is quite surreal having breakfast with a family of giraffe stood only feet away! We also went on game drives, again organised by Vince, where we saw leopards, lions and rhinos. The Jubulani elephant sanctuary is also close by, and whilst it's an early start I advise you not to miss it. Really an incredible experience! Nice a**os all round really. Already looking at dates for next year.
