We made a break in Hoedspruit to relax a bit from our Safari-Tours and found this charming lodge in the middle of a nature preserve. In the morning, before we had our tasty breakfast, we always made a nice hike and watched all kinds of wildlife. Our host Sander and his charming wife where very helpful and gave us some great advices. We can recommend this lodge to any kind of tourists!

My spouse and I booked a 3-day package that included a full day safari into Kruger National Park. The accommodations were just as advertised, and we slept well. We were delighted with the delicious evening braai the first night, and we ended up enjoying the meal all three evenings of our stay. Sander, Juliet, and the staff were lovely; this is a very family-oriented place. I walked around the neighborhood and to the nearby bird-blind, seeing lots of warthogs, nyala, and birds. It felt very peaceful. The full day Kruger excursion was amazing! We were very happy with the entire experience and would definitely book again when we come back to the area.

Breathtaking experience. What a wonderful lodge nestled in a beautiful garden. The rooms are lovely and well decorated. The homemade diner is just amazing. The proximity with the wildlife makes this lodge unique. Thank you so much for your hospitality.

My friends and I spent 2 nights in African Rock Lodge either side of a week in Kruger. It’s the perfect place to base yourself and explore the sights surrounding Hoedspruit, or to bookend a stay in Kruger. Sander and the staff are super friendly and helpful, the nightly braai is delicious, and the rooms are spacious and beautifully decorated. I highly recommend, and I look forward to returning!

Stayed two nights and would travel to Sander and Juliette again anytime. Friendly staff. Good food, nice area. Good value for money Very clean and well-kept house. Clean pool - one of the best accommodation on our trip

Everything from A to Z. The welcome from the owner was very warm, as was the rest of the staff. Everything was tip top clean and the breakfast buffet was rich, as was the evening barbecue. The owner couple took great care of the guests and fulfilled all their wishes Only 5 guest rooms and you feel like you are in a family. Comfort like in a 5 star hotel, even better. Julie and Sander are a very warm and friendly owner coupe There is nothing bad

A wonderful place to stay with a host that was very helpful and so keen of getting everything right. So nice to have the animals so close to you. Breakfast and dinner was delicious. We can warmly recommend this place.

Lovely family run lodge. Sander and the team are friendly and very helpful. Location is ideally located for game drives and we went for a walk around the estate where we saw Warthogs, fish eagles and tortoises wandering. Nice little pool to cool down from the heat. Braai meal in the evening was outstanding!

For this trip we were 4 couples (3 of the couples/our friends were new to South Africa). I organised the trip for everyone and chose African River Lodge as the first stop for the first 2 days. What a great choice it was, the lodge and staff/family were fabulous. The evening braai under the African sky was amazing. The breakfast, the pool and the abundance of wild life in and around the lodge was great. It was excellent value for money and the service was top notch. After a great 1st nights sleep we travelled to Orpen gate in 2 hire cars for a self drive in the Kruger. (Our hire cars were from SunnyCars at Hoedspruit airport - don`t use them as they are useless and didn`t supply the SUV`s that we ordered nearly a year ago). All in all African River Lodge must be on your list if you are stopping in the Hoedspruit/ Orpen Gate Kruger area
