Our stay at the Inn at the Gorge in the Cascade Suite was a major letdown. As avid visitors to Hood River, we were excited to try out this inn, but it failed to meet even basic expectations. Pros: The check-in process was straightforward with no need for interaction, and parking was conveniently located next to the inn. While the lobby boasted pastries, the lack of advertised kombucha on tap was disappointing. We appreciated the quietness of the place during our stay, likely due to fewer guests in the winter months. Cons: The main reason we chose this inn was for the hot tub, but it turned out to be a complete disaster. We specifically chose this place for its advertised hot tub, eagerly anticipating a relaxing soak after a day exploring the gorge. However, what we found upon opening the lid was far from idyllic. The hot tub emitted a strong odor of mildew, and the water was a repulsive shade of yellow, indicating a severe lack of cleanliness and maintenance. It was evident that the tub hadn't been properly cleaned or drained for some time. This was a major letdown considering it was the primary reason for selecting this inn. Despite being aware that it was winter, it's unacceptable to advertise an amenity that is clearly neglected and unusable. Just because there may be fewer guests during this season doesn't justify neglecting maintenance. Guests have every right to expect the amenities promised on the website to be in a usable state regardless of the time of year. We received a text from the owner on our last day informing us that check out was at 11:00am and asked us to leave the door ajar when ready to check out. On the morning of our departure, after prepacking our car and heading off to an early breakfast, we closed the door completely indicating we were NOT ready to check out. Despite following instructions we returned at 10:25am to find a staff member cleaning our room, well before the designated checkout time of 11:00 am. When questioned, the staff member seemed confused and cited that he thought we had left since our belongings were gone, yet he shouldn't have entered a room with a closed door as per the inn's own instructions. This isn't an isolated incident; a previous reviewer (Cary G, one year ago on Jan 2023 titled "BUYER BEWARE") encountered a similar issue with cleaning staff entering their room prior to the designated check out time, indicating a systemic problem with communication and management. The owner's response to previous negative reviews, including the one from Cary G in January 2023, is indicative of a serious problem with communication and accountability. Despite claiming to take matters seriously, it's evident that little action has been taken to address ongoing issues. The lack of integrity displayed and failure to rectify persistent problems, is deeply concerning. It's unacceptable for an owner to be unable to effectively communicate with their own staff and to repeatedly fail to address long-standing issu
