This hotel is wonderful! From the moment you enter from a busy main rd it is an oasis of calm. The front house staff were very efficient and welcoming. Our garden villa was amazing, huge, big comfy bed, coffee machine, lovely terrace…. Just beautiful. And then we went to the pool… wow, wow, wow it was wonderful. Best sunbeds ever, pool overlooking the ocean, drinks and food service with a smile. The lady who seems to run the pool/restaurant area was incredible… so very hardworking and attentive. There were some cocktail issues but she is working hard to train the new staff. The design of the whole place is so gorgeous. We didn’t want to leave!

Just spent 12 nights at Zazen Boutique Resort & Spa.We were a bit hesitant before booking as we know the hotel was being refurbished. But our stay totally exceeded our expectations! The hotel is one of the most beautiful boutique hotels we’ve ever stayed at. The pool and restaurant area are absolutely stunning. The bungalows are set in beautiful gardens, they're beautifully designed, stylish. really spacious with huge bathrooms, minimalist design but functional and everything was always spotlessly clean. Facilities at the hotel are fantastic including a well equipped gym. The location is perfect as it’s set slightly away from the hustle and bustle of Fisherman’s village but close enough to walk which takes about 20 mins. But what really makes Zazen special is the staff. They are genuinely friendly and go out of their way to be helpful. We had couple of issues with our room as the resort has just recently been refurbished so there were some teething problems. The staff were fantastic and sorted the issues out immediately, couldn't do enough for us. Well done Zazen for creating such a special place, an oasis of calm and tranquility on Koh Samui, fabulous! Can't recommend this hotel highly enough! Martin and Jack.

Stylish and chic. Fantastic breakfast - the pool area is gorgeous if quiet and relaxing is what you’re looking for. Rooms are large and beautiful. Very close to the fisherman’s village where there are lots of restaurants and a night market. Staff are all amazing I can’t describe what a fabulous time we had. Special mentions to Bee and King I think that’s his name the porter who couldn’t do enough for you. We will be back! There are only 24 rooms which keeps this hotel unique and civilised Fabulous x

Beautiful decoration but that is the only thing I can say that is positive. The water canal at reception was turning green, same for the pool. Rooms are not functional, the AC is just above the bed. All rooms are aligned where all terraces are next to each other. The room was horrible clean wise: white spot on the sofa, hair all over the room (bed, floor, toilet, shower…), dead flies on the bathroom, toilets not cleaned… Horrible smell when checked in. No manager on site on the week end… I was lucky I work on hospitality because I could arrange a discount, a full cancellation but I had to waste my holiday time to find another hotel. I don’t recommend at all.

We stayed for 8 nights at Zazen, we had an ok stay, the staff are extremely friendly and polite, the pool is small but wasn’t too busy so was not a problem and the new decor is nice in the restaurant area. The views were beautiful and breakfast was good. Location is ok, about 20 mins walk to the main area which can be an issue when it is hot during the day. The room was disappointing, there was stains on the floor and the walls, and the shower was dirty. The bugs were a big issue, the bathroom was swarming with mosquitos and despite speaking with the staff the issue could not be resolved due to poor design. This led to a monumental amount of bites making the stay a bit uncomfortable. There is a lot of stagnant water around which does not help with the insect problem. The beach is a bit disappointing as it is next to a tour company and therefore busy with boats close to beach and tidal action means very small amount of beach area in front of hotel. The place is still on a ‘soft launch’ which meant that the menu was very limited and few options for vegetarian. The pool bar is still not open as well. The price paid to stay doesn’t represent the current quality. Overall was a nice experience and amazing staff maybe when the soft launch is over it will be better.

Quite simply one of the best hotels and locations we have ever stayed at! We had a Beachfront apar**ent and at times it felt like we were on our own tropical island with the sun beds outside our room so close to the sea! The hotel was doing a soft re-opening so the Spa & Pool bar were not open but this didn’t matter as the staff were so attentive and looked after everything for us. (Especially Diane) We would highly recommend this hotel if you want peace & tranquility in luxurious surroundings with the added benefit of not being too far away from the action in Fisherman’s village. We will definitely be back.

We booked this hotel as an highlight to close of our holiday in Thailand. We arranged everything by ***********. Just 3 weeks before out arrival we were notified that they could not receive us due to a delay in their reconstruction work. Leaving us empty handed and little time to look for a replacement. So, not transparant at all. They care foremost for themselves. Make sure the hotel is open before you book!!

I ate here for Chris**as dinner. They had a standard and specials menu. Apero was an excellent mojito, then I started with a caesar salad which was exceptional, just perfect. Dressing was quality and bacon was just crispy enough. I had a rack of lamb with olive crust dressing which was cooked to perfection. And then creme brûlée lemongrass which was a lovely change. All in all a wonderful dining experience, my initial disappoin**ent with no steaks available despite the website and several photos was quickly forgotten. Thanks to the lovely staff and the great wine pairing recommendations.

Having stayed at Zazen in Dec 2018 we couldn’t wait to return since we had such an incredible experience with excellent guest service (as shown in my previous review of the hotel). This time around unfortunately we didn’t have anywhere near the same experience. The hotel is still in the middle of renovations/construction so should not be charging US$300+ per night (early booking) in my opinion with very limited amenities and services available. They are very much still in the early stages of a soft opening phase and it appeared that the hotel will not be close to being where it was for some time yet. It felt that the hotel management was happy for us to be there to fault find and pass on recommendations but we were paying guests at the end of the day. We had numerous issues with the room and restaurant which the manager was always quick to respond to and apologise for however it all added to the thoughts that they should have communicated clearly how far off the hotel is from being completed given it was Chris**as too (not that you could really tell it was Chris**as at the hotel). Once the hotel is complete I have no doubt it will be very nice but had we known it was still so far off it certainly wasn’t worth the money we paid given the options available in Samui. Unfortunately we feel let down after the great time/experience we had at the old Zazen. This was the last hotel stay during our three week trip in Thailand and by far the least enjoyable for all of the above reasons.
