Sakura-an is located in a district, Gion Miyagawa-cho, which is populated by tea shops and frequented by maiko (apprentice geisha) as they come and go. The house is a 2-storey wooden building (non-smoking) that used to be a tea house that catered to artists in the area. Now it is fitted with LAN Internet, but no elevator and is open to guests to stay. Well connected to the city with train stations, convenience stores, sento and temples all within easy walking distance. After check-in and a short explanation of the facility, guests are free to come and go as they please - it's not so much "staying" like in a hotel, but more like "living" in your own Kyoto house! Meals are not provided, but guests are free to make use of the fully-furnished kitchen. Please try not to cook anything too smelly though! Amenities like shampoo, tea and coffee are provided.
