Miramar Surfcamp

Long Review: TL;DR - Aboslutely loved my time at Miramar! I went for a 10 day solo trip (as a female), purchased the all inclusive beginner package which includes the room, meals, roundtrip transportation to/from airport, and surf lessons/rentals. Given this was my first time to Nicaragua I had questions about how to prepare (e.g. vaccines, airports, weather, timing for arrival). Right off the bat the Miramar team was always available by phone/email to answer questions. I flew to MGA (Managua) - there was a driver with a sign for Miramar and my name right outside of the airport. We stopped at a gas station for waters and then made the 1.5 hour drive out to Miramar. When I arrived, I was greeted by one of the staff members who walked me through the property. Property: There was truly no shortage of places to hang out, read a book and nap :) The beachfront property is beautiful and quite extensive for a hotel that probably has 10-12 rooms - there's a skate park, an area to store/prep boards, an infinity pool, a smaller plunge pool, bar/restaurant, upstairs area for workouts (open-air), two raised huts with hammocks, and many many places to lounge inside/outside. The pool was definitely the watering hole for guests to gather after a surf session, have a beer and watch the waves. Rooms: I opted for the most basic room which is situated behind the main property (15 foot walk) set up like a courtyard (this is different from the more premium rooms located next to the pool/garden). My room came with a bunkbed, queen size bed, desk, side table, AC (a true luxury), and lock box. Between the 6 basic rooms there are shared bathrooms (a few showers and toilets). There's also a shared water dispenser with cold water. Rooms/bathrooms were cleaned every day by the staff who also would do wash/fold laundry service. Also note there will be the occasional mosquito, ant, fly or gecko in the room. Overall the room got the job done - beds were comfy, room was private, bathrooms were clean, and I always felt safe walking between the main property to the courtyard especially since they have a guard standing watch every night. My advice is to set your expectations accordingly for the basic rooms (or book the more premium room) - but you'll also be spending majority of your time outside the room anyways. Food/Bar: I was pleasantly surprised by food and drinks - everything was freshly made, healthy, and thoughtfully pepared. The restaurant/bar is open to the public but basically all of the guests chose to eat here as well for all of the meals. There are lunch and dinner specials which ranged from tacos, various fish/chicken/beef/seafood dishes, burgers, lasagna, pizza, and ceviche. Outside of the specials there's a standard menu you can order from as well. The bar had several beers, cocktails, soft drinks, freshly-squeezed juices, and coconuts. 99% of the time guests were drinking the fridge full of Toña beers (#1 selling beer in central america) and my personal f

I’ve been traveling around the world on surf trips for 20 years. I’ve never left a trip early, until now. We only made 2 days into our 8 day trip before we couldn’t take it anymore. But could tell how how dingy the camp was, how bad the food was, but the real problem was there septic tank system. It was completely out of control. You could smell raw sewage around most of the camp. Ok it’s a different country I get it, but then myself and my 2 friends got violently ill from food poisoning. Vomiting non stop. And the fact we all had to share 1 small bathroom made everything worse. Then come to find out, EVERYONE in camp is sick with this! At night you can hear multiple people vomiting through the wallls. All night. It was like a movie or something. One staff said it was from the runoff into the ocean, one staff said it was from mosquitoes, another says it was the flies on the food (that’s exactly what I think it was). Ok things happen, but im a small business owner and if one of my customers has a bad experience I do everything I can to make it right for them. Miramar did none of that. They charged us our complete stay despite only staying for 2 days. Made zero effort to make anything right or even apologize for such a horrible experience. Thus place is dangerous. If you have underlying health issues I would avoid this situation.

Context: This was my second time visiting Miramar. First time in 2018 was great Pros: - Easy early morning boat trips to some pretty fun, uncrowded waves - Food and drinks are great - Accommodations were very nice and comfortable - All staff were very friendly and accommodating, going out of their way to support - Transportation to and from the airport was easy Cons: - We, unfortunately, hit it on an off-year when Puerto Sandino wasn't working - The jetty which was built on the other side of the beach seems to have more of less decimated punta Miramar. It did however make the center beach beach-break punchier and bigger. - Although I wasn't there at the time, a few others in our group felt that the camp was giving wave recommendation priority to friends over us, even as repeat customers - There was a lot of nickel and diming, despite having gone for the fully inclusive package. Additionally, perks such as 3 free drinks daily and a t-shirt were no longer included. All inclusive = accommodation, meals, 1 juice with a meal, airport transport, 1 boat trip daily which is all good, just need to be more upfront about it. The end result here is that during our stay and while checking out, there were multiple ＞10 overcharge issues with our bill which we felt crossed the line from an honest mistake. Note: The camp was still great, but seems to be growing at a pace beyond what they're able to efficiently sort out. An example is this is that it was reported (unconfirmed) that the online booking system + person responding to emails was in Panama and the staff at the site had lots of miscommunications. The end result is everyone is victimized: 1) staff rely only on what their system says and are caught in the middle, 2) guests are frustrated that their communication seemed to disappear, and 3) the camp isn't able to fully provide the experience they, I assume, hope to.

My Fiance and I traveled here at the end of April and had a wonderful experience. We had never stayed at a surf camp before and this was an amazing first-time experience. Kyle and the owners really have this place dialed with all of the amenities you could want while still maintaining a laid back atmosphere. My fiance is a beginner and she did lessons with Amir all week and couldn't speak more highly of her experience. As an intermediate surfer, I went out on the boat a few times but also surfed out front a lot and got my fill of waves. This is a great family-friendly resort to come to surf and relax. Food was awesome! The staff were extremely friendly and professional - I couldn't speak more highly of this operation.

One of the best weeks of my life! Fantastic service and true professionals at what they do. Everyone on the staff was so kind and accommodating. Great food, great waves, cold cervezas. If you are looking to score some waves and hang with cool people in Nicaragua, this is the place to be. Toña time!

Have been here twice over the past two years and have always had an incredible time staying here with Miramar. There are a few camps around, but nothing compares to the Food, fun communal atmosphere and vibe of this place. They provide yoga in between long surf seshes to keep your body injury free, a really fun surf slide show every night with the talented photographers who capture your best waves all day, and most notably a killer staff who are pumped to see you every time and bring tons of awesome stroke/ energy for your stay. I try to visit twice a year regularly. Cheers!

Mirmar surf camp is top notch !! We stayed for 8 days and enjoyed every minute of it . The food is amazing . Every meal was absolutely delicious! Beds were super comfortable and air conditioning was ice cold . There were Waves right out front of the camp . Fun boat rides to different breaks . Mirmar exceeded our expectations. Every single staff member made us feel as if we knew them for years . They made us feel at home and went above and beyond to make our experience a great one . There’s no doubt I will be returning to Mirmar again . Conrado and Lauren made sure to get the shot! Whenever we were in the water they were there with the cameras . They are exceptional at their jobs! We also shared a few waves with them which was awesome. Also gotta mention Caio, Eliu, Rudy, Carlos, Axel, Emir, Iker all made the trip that much better ! Solid group of people . I will be returning!! Pura vida 🤙

Not only met, but exceed my wildest dreams. The best, most professional experience I’ve ever had. Shout out to Caio, Rudy, Carlos, Axel, Emir, Conrado and all the boys- the rest of the industry should be taking notes from you guys. I already booked for next year :)

The staff at Miramar is very welcoming and the facility is top notch. There are several waves to choose from out front and a couple others just a short boat ride away. I would recommend Miramar to surfers of all levels.
