My partner and I have just returned from a one night stay, celebrating his 40th birthday. The hotel itself is stunning. The atmosphere, food, cocktails, spa and courtyard are truly wonderful. And the reception employees are extremely attentive. That being said, there were a few negatives which spoiled our time: 1. Our room (BIGGEST +) was on the ground floor, with double doors opening out to the courtyard. A courtyard full of people enjoying the afternoon sun having lunch and cocktails. Privacy was not one of the room’s strong points. Also the bath was no better than what you would get a basic new build house. 2. I mentioned a few times on various paperwork that it was my partner’s 40th, and was told that the restaurant would bring out a desert plate. Whilst we did get a handwritten note wishing a happy birthday in our room, that was sadly it. Fair enough… but, it did slightly upset me that the couple next to us was wished a happy birthday by the staff at dinner and made a fuss of?? 3. The worst part - my partner and I ordered the same breakfast, however only one came out. After waiting 5 mins, I asked if mine was ready. I asked the kind waitress and was told that it was being sorted. 15mins later (my partner has finished his breakfast) and still no sign of my breakfast. I went to reception to pay the bill (we needed to leave by a certain time pick up our daughter, so I wanted to save time where possible) and I mentioned that I was still waiting for my breakfast. The gentleman was most apologetic and explained that they had young staff, and two had called in sick (aka a hangover). What did make me smile was the card machine being pushed towards me asking what % tip I would like to give (whilst I was still waiting for my breakfast). After paying, I went back up to the restaurant to wait, I was upset to see a number of other guests receive the same breakfast I had ordered, whilst I still waited. At this point I left. The gentleman on reception was most apologetic, along with the waitress. And I was verbally offered a 20% on our next stay ( I have yet to receive in writing) however time was not my friend and we had to get back to our daughter. For context we sat down to breakfast at 9.30 and left at 10.25, not an unreasonable period of time to be able to order and eat breakfast. To summarise, it is a lovely hotel however it is not worth the price tag. Whoever does their branding deserves a raise! But when you’re paying £500 for a room alone, I do not think I am wrong to expect a superior level of service and facilities.
