Saltmarshe Hall

Best afternoon tea ever. We thought this exceeded Betty’s in York and Harrogate, and the Dorchester in London. The staff were attentive and welcoming. The hotel itself is next to the river and has lovely walled gardens. We will definitely go again.

We took advantage of a Travelzoo offer for a night at Saltmarshe Hall to celebrate my partner's December birthday. The location suited us perfectly, as the hall is tucked away in the South Yorkshire countryside. The building has been tastefully decorated with great care to keep its original character. Seasonal decorations had also been tastefully done, including some beautiful Christmas trees. The room we were originally booked into was rather chilly, so the receptionist quickly offered to switch us to a suite on the first floor. Both rooms were nicely decorated and furnished, but the suite was much more spacious. It also offered lovely views of the grounds, and countryside beyond. Our evening meal was delicious and imaginative with sufficient choices on the menu to please most palettes. There was only one vegetarian option, which thankfully wasn't a problem. After a comfortable night's sleep, we were greeted by a lovely sunrise over the river from our bedroom windows. The breakfast offered plenty of choice, and both of ours were delicious. The staff were all very pleasant and professional in all sections. We were lucky in our choice of night because the following day a wedding party of 200 were at the hall. Saltmarshe will certainly be on our list of places to return.

Had a brilliant stay at Saltmarshe Hall, all the staff were lovely and the food was wonderful so I cannot understand the comment from 3 weeks ago criticising the food. We had a lovely room and a nice walk around the grounds the following morning after a great breakfast, not sure how you make vegetarian black pudding however it was very tasty!!!! Will definitely visit again

Chose Saltmarshe Hall as a treat for a family success. When pulling on to the car park we knew straight away it was not busy as there was only one other car parked. We went for Brunch, there was a substantial offering on the menu and from what we ordered the food was quite nice. However we asked for a Latte and the waitress came to us to say the coffee machine was turned off!! So we had to have something else. We would have liked service with a smile. The waitress was very unsociable and had poor customer service skills. There was only one other couple in the dining room. The room was deadly quiet and it seemed that we had to whisper when conversing. Quiet background music would have broken the ice and made quiet conversation possible. I think this venue may be pointing more at weddings and need to consider occasional diners like ourselves by fulfilling the actual basics of a restaurant.

From the get-go we knew we loved Saltmarshe Hall. We had been viewing other venues but none of them ticked the boxes like this one, even boxes we didn't know we had! It has beautiful grounds, a fabulous mix of contemporary and classic decor and a vast array of period features to centre photographs around, including the walled gardens, Lime Tree Ave. and that incredible curving staircase in the atrium. Amy couldn't do enough for us and was with us through every step of the planning, the meal choices and table plan, the taster evening and making time for our check-ins during the lead up to the event. She spent the whole two days corralling wayward guests and organising our outside suppliers, ensuring both myself and my new bride had everything we could possibly need, usually before we even asked for it. All the staff were wonderful, exceeding all possible expectations. The pool party and barbeque the day before were lovely and the cooked breakfast really set myself and the guests up for the big day in the morning (bride had delicious fruit and pastries in the bridal suite whilst getting ready with the bridal party). All the food was exceptional, far exceeding our expectations of wedding catering from previous experience as wedding guests, the three choices presenting excellent value for money (definitely go for that!). The canapes were delicious and a selection was brought to us separately, allowing us a quiet few minutes away from the hustle and bustle together before the next round of photographs. Everything ran so smoothly and we just went with the flow, our trust in the staff and venue well-rewarded. It's true what married folks tell you: it goes so fast after so much planning: it really is over in a heartbeat, but I wouldn't change a thing about it, even the hour of rain we had in the evening reception didn't dampen any spirits, as the venue had ample space inside, and the covered patio was heated and comfortable. We honestly can't recommend this venue highly enough. You may find something cheaper in your search but cheap doesn't always mean value for money. You will have peace of mind with a booking at Saltmarshe Hall, and for the most important day of your life you need all the support you can get so that you can focus on simply enjoying yourselves and spending time with the people you love.

Our son bought us a voucher for an afternoon tea at Saltmarshe Hall, what a wonderful gift. From the moment I contacted the hotel I encountered friendly and helpful staff. Everyone was so kind and friendly, the young man who served our afternoon tea was pleasant and looked after our needs constantly. The food was amazing, beautifully presented and so tasty. Thank you so much for a wonderful afternoon.
