La Closerie Saint Martin

What can I add to the reviews already posted, except agree wholeheartedly? The very comfortable La Closerie Saint Martin is in the sleepy small town of Ligré, very well situated for visiting Chinon, Azay-le-Rideau, Rivau etc. Katharina and Marcel are perfect hosts, both of whom slip effortlessly between speaking French, English or German. Happily evening meals were offered on both days of our stay - thoroughly recommended! Sparkling wine with canapés in the cellar to start, four delicious courses with wine to follow. All served sitting around a large table with other guests - an excellent way of meeting people. Thank you Katharina and Marcel.

This is an exceptionally charming place to stay. Close to Chinon in a small village, it is a peaceful little oasis. Marcel and Katarina were fabulous hosts and we were lucky enough to be staying on a night when they do a dinner for guests - this was absolutely delicious and very good value. Sharing this with the other guests worked very well, despite some communication challenges, and it was a very relaxed and fun evening. Our bedroom was large and well appointed with an extremely comfortable bed. Lovely breakfast in the pretty courtyard.

Martin and Katharina aim to please every guest. They were very helpful by email while I was planning our trip; they suggested restaurants, including a lovely dinner they held; they answered all sorts of questions and gave us thoughtful advice about sight-seeing. Our rooms were lovely. One can hang out at this property. The conviviality among guests was tons of fun. We would love to find more chambres d'hôtes like Closerie Saint Martin.

We spent a marvelous stay at this place. The idea of a comunal table for breakfast and dinners (excellent meals served with taste and love) was one of the peak points. The room was comfortable and spacious and decorate with style. The host Katherina and Marcel are wonderful, been there for any suggestion or advice to visit the area. Don't miss the dinner if you have chance, the food is perfect, made with season products and it's a real homemade food. Before dinner, Marcel share an aperitif in his wine cellar, which is a magical space to share a moment of relax with the other guests. Thanks Marcel and Katherina for being so kind.

Roxane, chienne golden retriever de bientôt 9 ans et ses maîtres ont passé un séjour chaleureux mais trop court à la Closerie. Roxane a apprécié la présence d'une lointaine cousine avec qui elle a pu échanger des conversations uniquement comprises par les chiens de sa race. Les maîtres ont apprécié un apéritif original dans une cave typique de la région, une table d'hôtes finement cuisinée et une chambre confortable pour récupérer de leur long voyage. Et, cerise sur le gâteau, nous avons pu vérifier que la notion d'Union Européenne n'était pas une utopie. les échanges linguistiques en trois langues ont permis de converser sur des sujets variés. Mais finalement, les chiens, qui n'ont qu'un seul langage se comprennent peut-être mieux que nous. En tout cas merci pour cet excellent séjour trop court. On reviendra.

Another great reunion with four other couples after a three year absence from this wonderful place. Marcel and Katharina are perfect hosts, great cooks and a joy to be with. The wine flowed as usual and the weather allowed us to eat outdoors for the first two nights. 2023 booking already made!

Very friendly hosts, everything was perfect

We stayed at La Closerie in mid August 2022, in one of the hottest periods the region has ever seen. We are a family of four, two adults and two children aged 12, and whilst we would not have fit in one of the five bedroom the B&B offers, the hosts made available a separate studio to us where the parents were sleeping upstairs whilst an improvised bed was made available downstairs. The studio was exceeding our expectations by far. Top quality installations in the kitchen and the bathroom, a very cosy and original building standard, easy access to a private parking, a room for the bicycles and a washing machine. When we express our excitement about the studio, this is nothing against the hospitality the hosts Katharina and Marcel provided to us. They offered us to bring some fresh bread in the morning, and we chose to eat our breakfast in the garden whenever possible. We made sure that we could attend two dinners the hosts are cooking for their B&B guest, which are usually four course - started by an apéritif in the underground cellar system of the former monastery. The food was outstanding, and as we believe Chinon to be in one of the best wine regions in France, so was the wine. These hosts think of everything, and after the welcome drinks and briefing, you know how to spend your next five, six days in the Loire Valley. If this is your first time in the valley, you will find most of the castle highlights in max 60 minutes driving distance, and if you fancy a more easy way to go around, Marcel and Katharina will help you rent bike in the village. The valley is loaded with history, and if you are willing, Marcel and Katharina have lots to tell you about. The stay at Marcel and Katharina was the final stage in a three-week-travel through central France, from Gevrey-Chambertin via Bordeaux and La Rochelle to Nantes, and this was the best stay of all our 20 hotel nights. We will return!

Just spent three nights at this brilliant property with a group of friends and had a great time. The rooms are all really nicely done and the property has real character and it is a great base for exploring the chateau and Loire area. Marcel and Katerina are lovely hosts, speaking English, French and German and they provide lovely breakfasts and four course dinners preceded by aperitifs. Can’t recommend this place highly enough.
