Stayed here for our 15 year wedding anniversary. Location was great as pretty close to the west end theatres. Unfortunately our room G.01 fell well below expectations.
+Super friendly helpful staff
+clean rooms and hotel generally.
- Room G.01 - a ground floor - we had to keep curtains shut the entire time, as people walking in the streets outside have a clear view straight into your bedroom! The Mrs was most unimpressed at this.
- Tiny shower room and cubicle - honestly my mums caravan has a bigger shower. I could barely fit, and I'm 5ft 7, 68kg. If you are larger person, or slightly overweight forget it!
- Shower temperature was not getting hot - raised with reception and was told "leave it running for 5mins and it should start to get hot" not ideal if you're in a hurry and don't have time to sit around having a cup of tea whilst you wait for the shower to heat up.
- Too many doors!, all with harsh slamming fire hinges - they slam you on the butt as you walk through, they slam in the night when you are trying to be quiet through the night - even the shower room had it.
- Insanely confusing Air Con, that we could not work out how to manually set a temperature without it flicking back to "Auto" a matter of seconds later. We both felt we were slowly suffocating through the night, due to the "Auto" mode ensuring the air con would turn off after a few minutes.
- an insanely bright green laser emits from the air con wall pad, so we had to drape towels over it.
- strong bright white light emits from the menu screen on the bedside telephone, with no obvious way of turning it off, unless your a 90's Mittel engineer - had to cover this also
- pre booked parking space, but there was a broken down car straddled across the last 2 spaces meaning we had to find on street parking instead.
- various other issues, such as the "L'occitane" toiletries being refilled with water, meaning a diluted fairy liquid squirt, rather than a proper shower gel. Also questionable whether they are just using L'occitane bottles and filling with cheap liquids.
- Breakfast expensive for the small buffet selection on offer. Also we were asked to confirm the night before what time we would be attending breakfast, so we had to go at a specific time slot, rather than simply when waking up.
Conclusion -
After the stay, we felt that a "boutique" style place like this just isn't work the risk - is in our case room G.01 - needs to be taken out of service in our view! I've stayed in a Travelodge with more generous features and installations. I'm sure some others are lucky to get a larger room, and perhaps even a bath tub. Next time we'll be opting for one of the more well known hotel chains with uniform room standards, so you know exactly what you are getting before your book it - especially at several hundred pounds for one night.
