The Chequers is probably best thought of as a pub with rooms. That would often suggest late-night noise, but when we were there it was surprisingly quiet, even at a weekend, and was clearly winding down by 9.30. It is in the village of Maresfield, and if you choose this location it will probably be as a base for driving to other places in the area - but there are plenty within reasonable driving range. Our room was in good condition with a good comfortable bed, desk, chair and reasonable storage. The bathroom had a bath with a shower over it. You probably wouldn't want to spend a lot of your waking hours in your room, but of course you always have the option of going down to the bar, restaurant or garden. There was a good buffet breakfast, with a choice of freshly-cooked options. The staff were friendly and helpful. Overall, a good example of the pub-with-rooms style. Not one that really stands out from the pack, but one to which we'd happily return if the location worked for us.
