Riad Dar El Souk

Riad Dar el Souk was an excellent base for our four-night stay in Marrakech. Abdul and the team are very good at looking after you, and there's always someone around to help. Good recommendations for restaurants and cafes too. Really nice rooms and public areas, plus a spacious rooftop terrace with a couple of big gazebo areas to keep you cool. Five/10 minutes walk to Jemaa el-Fnaa with some good little cafes on the way up Rue Riad Zitoun el Kdim. Some nice places off the neighbouring Tinsmiths' Square too.

Just back from a magical few days in Marrakech where we stayed in the Dar el Souk. From the moment we entered the hidden front door down a traditional alleyway, we were made to feel incredibly welcome by Abdul, Madi and their wonderful team. It really felt like a home from home. With our first taste of Moroccan mint tea on arrival and a quick masterclass from Abdul on how to bargain in the Souk and the best places to visit - we were off! The location is excellent, the rooms are comfortable and cool despite the temperatures hitting 34 degrees outside during our visit. I really can't fault the service and the welcome you receive at Dar el Souk - first class!

The best about this Riad is the people working there. They seem genuinely interested in you having a good stay there. They are so nice! Very clean room also and delicious breakfast every time.

While checking out places to stay while in Marrakech, we settled on Dar el Souk as the place my partner and I wanted to stay. The riad was a 10 minute walk from Tinsmith Square, the closest traffic point to the medina, and was a 10 minute walk to Jemma al-Fnaa. As we were arriving in Marrakech on a tour from Fes, I had given a later arrival time of when we actually arrived, so there was a bit of confusion for our check-in but ultimately got that done. Our room was on the third level overlooking the courtyard and was a great size with a small sitting area upon entry. A comfortable queen bed was further right and gave us good sleep for all of our nights. They provided extra blankets in the shelves by the bathroom which which I needed. The bathroom was also large with a double vanity and large shower with good water pressure. Breakfast (and other meals) was served in a nice dining room on the second level with plenty of breads, cheese spread and preserves, and nice hot tea or coffee. The riad was able to help us book a porter and a car the day we left, and had recommendations for some local hammams we wanted to experience. Central location, clean and comfortable room, good value and excellent service made our stay in Marrakech amazing.

One of the most magical places I’ve stayed during my travels. Can’t fault a thing - beautiful rooms, safe and secure for female travellers, a wonderfully accomodating team, delicious breakfasts, and incredible location (a peaceful oasis a few minutes walk to the Medina). Madi, the owner, is the sort of woman you want to talk to for hours and soak up as much wisdom as you can from her. Her worldly life can be seen in all the little details which is one of the many things that makes this place so special. Abdul, Fatima, Izme, and everyone else who contributed to our blissful experience, thank you for all your help during our stay. Will be recommending to all friends and family visiting morocco, and will rebook in a heartbeat when I return to Marrakech.

A perfect Riad in a perfect location just 5 minutes walk from all that Marrakesh has to offer. Do remember that this is a Riad not a hotel so no lift (historic building), no TV or tea/coffee making facilities in rooms. That said the rooms are a true reflection on Morocco with beautiful colours and a warm cosy feel - just be careful if you are over 5ft 6 getting in and out of the shower!!! All the staff are all friendly and happy to provide tea/coffee or even alcohol on request. We only managed breakfast once due to commitments but they did provide tea and coffee for us on a 7am start!!! It is traditional Moroccan fare with a selection of bread/fruit/cake etc. Despite its location it is quiet at night. The building is very secure with someone on site 24hrs and cctv you have to ring the bell to be let in and out so perfect for a solo traveller. Had a lovely chat with Madeline the owner about her ongoing love affair with the vibrant city she has called home for nigh on 2 decades and how she has a committed and long standing team in Abdul and his fantastic team - which they are. It goes without saying that we will return to this wonderful ‘smelly and dirty city’ (your words Madeline) and to Der Souk. My only issue - change the white wine offering!!! 🙃

Dat el Souk is a genuine home from home. The most boutique of boutique hotels it feels like you’re a very special guest of the lovely family of staff here. And the location is perfect. The private terrace outside each of the rooms is a wonderful place to spend time as is the roof terrace where you can relax, eat and enjoy the sunset. Breakfast every day is different and delicious. And the rooms are gorgeous and peaceful. Already looking forward to coming back!

Riad Dar Eel Souk is family owned and the staff have been there for many years. Continuity, care and attention to detail. Spacious and well furnished rooms, large close cotton shower towels and light fluffy hand, face towels in the en suite shower rooms and our wash basin had a plug! Deep joy! The walls are adorned with pictures and weave work, while on the first floor there is a large sitting room with deep squab sofas, chairs and at one end an open chimney piece for winter and cooler evening fires. Richly embossed decorated historic ceilings and real beguiling tadelakt plaster walls which one wants to stroke form the fabric of the building. Riad Dar El Souk is not one of those bland 'boutique' Milano beige corporate hotels dressed up as a dar. The upper terrace is festooned with establised and well looked after potted colourful plants. Beds are comfy and the pillows are firm, not a pocket of sagging dust found in so many amateurly run Airbnbs. Plentiful breakfasts and what looked like tasty suppers are all home cooked. Real orange juice, confiture and delicate unsalted butter and baquette wash down with fragrant 'Mediterranean' coffee. Riad Dar El Souk is a house of abundance and pleasure.

We stayed at Riad Dar El Souk for our trip to Marrakech and it was wonderful. The staff could not have been more helpful and welcoming and they were always very happy to help us with any question. The atmosphere is very peaceful and the hospitality was superb. We would highly recommend to anyone staying in Marrakech.
