Very dirty, very dissappointing and not as described on Trip Advisor made worse by an arrogant owner and manager who seem determined to rip of guests. I have lived in and travelled the Middle East for more than 10 years and it is sad to see the usual warm hospitality of the people there let down by this management team. If you do decide to stay make sure you have plenty of CASH. Firstly, the location is challenging. It maybe close to Bab Yacout for drop off but it is a long way to walk to most of the sites through dirty, narrow alleys in the beginning which have little street light at night. It is 40 minutes walk to Jemaa el Fna for example. We stayed 4 nights and there was little evidence that the room was cleaned at all during our stay - litter bins not emptied, shampoo etc not replenished we had to ask for fresh towels on the final night of our stay. It would be hard to call what was offered in the morning breakfast, stale bread and stale chocolate croissants, the same every day, no cheese, cold meats etc at least they managed good coffee. The terrace is not as the pictures on Trip Advisor - dirty, dusty stained covers on the lumpy 'sofas' rubbish is left for days, the photos I attach were taken on the morning of our departure with rubbish evident from at least the day before. The lobby on the ground floor is dark, the plants 'dusty' and attract flies in the place you eat. The stairs to your room are very narrow and twist sharply; there is no hand rail just a loose rope so definitely not a place for anyone with either mobility issues or young children. There is also no help with getting your suitcases up to the room. The rip off begins when you first arrive with the 'miscalculation' of the tourist tax using a Euro rate 10 - 15% higher than that quoted online, for which you are demanded to pay immediately in cash on check-in (in our conversations with fellow travellers on group tours no-one else had such a demand immediately on check-in) This demand reflects the 'welcome(?) in the room guide. AVOID any meals here. Despite ordering the day before as they insist, the food we ordered for 8 pm was 1 hour late and incorrect. As there were last minute 'adjustments' despite the 24 hour notice, it was also cooked by the night porter! The result - a tepid uninspiring appetiser of Briouates, the worst tangine I have ever tasted (and also one of the most expensive) and the sort of fruit salad you expect at a children's party. A terrible meal at a rip-off price - we paid less for a much better tangine in a terraced restaurant on the main square which was delicious. Then there are the demands for CASH. We paid for every other meal, snack, coffee and some purchases from the souq using my card (which has guarateed interbank exchange rates and no foreign transaction fees which I use all over the Middle East for travelling) in this Bayt AlKalb, the demand is CASH only. The demands to settle the room extras began on the third day (the room was paid in advance).
